I don't want to install my rear springs now
 

I picked up a set of progress springs to put on my 6th gen while i save up for coilovers next year. I put the fronts on a couple of weeks ago but ran out of time for the rears. after riding around with them for a while I like the look of the drop. it makes for a pretty even wheel gap. So my dilemma is I like to improve handling but I don't want the rear to look like it is dragging ***. Am considering putting some spacers ont he springs. would keep my height the same but give me the stiffer spring rate of the progress. any thoughts or suggestions?

Do you mean the rear is riding a lot lower than the front? The only way you can put spacers will be on top of the upper rubber seat or at the bottom of the lower rubber seat. I'm not sure if it will be stable and safe though. How many inches is the drop?

Progress I believe is 1.8" front and 0.8" rear. CoolMax05 did that to some springs he had because he wanted the wheel gap to be a little more equal.

Not sure about a LOT, but a noticeable amount to me. a couple of people that have seen it the way it is (progress front, stock rear) think its perfect and said a rear drop would look funny.

or remove one of the seats or get an H groove that goes between the coils and keep them from compressing. The H would be ideal but if the coil is too wide already then it will still compress some, until it meets the spacer

that is exactly the thread that gave me the idea, I just didnt want to bump a thread that old especially since the last post contains some of my question and didnt get answered there. I was hoping to get some feedback from more long term usage and maybe a part number. found some in stock at a local shop from a different brand, superior I think it is.

I did this briefly. Rides like ***. Rear almost feel like it sways during sharp turns and at hwy speeds. Put the rear springs on.

Do not worry, it will not look like your max is dragging the rear. I have progress and it makes the car look way better. Very even. I actually thought about this exact same thing and was a little nervous when doing them. But it turned out great and looks so much better than stock. Just do it, its not like you can't take them off.

true, the rear is much easier than the front.

Yeah, you want to put them all on as a set. The drop in back is minimal, you should be fine.

True, there is a bit of difference in fender gap but it's not as big as you're probably thinking. This was on Progress springs, I believe stock struts and shocks, and 2 12" subs in the trunk.

Sorry I don't have any with me at the moment. The difference could be many different things, it's hard to tell in pictures. How long have the springs been used, what size tires are you running, what's the offset of your wheels? Staring at the pictures, the front wheel gap actually looks a little similar, two things I could think of that make yours appear larger than mine are a higher wheel offset and smaller wheels. Here's another picture on OEM wheels and tires, which should be a little closer to your setup.

yeah, that looks a little closer to mine, thanks for the extra pic. My wheels are stock g35s and I want to say 45mm offset according to the link below. split 5 spoke 18" sounds like the right description to me. Stock SE is 40mm according to a quick search. I plan on adding some spacers eventually. 15-20mm maybe. might help out the look.

I have progress and I agree with all of the above.

No problem. So it looks like the G35's are 18x7.5 +45 and the SE's are 18.7.5 +40, I ran 15mm spacers on my SE's before so you should be able to do 20mm spacers all around, assuming you have 245/45/18 tires.

I put off putting my tein springs on the rear for the same reason as you. However after 6 months with only the front tein springs on I finally installed the rear springs....and the rear raised 1/4" lol yep, I've driven it about 100 miles since I put them on and it's still 1/4" taller in the rear than it was stock. I'm not complaining though, it sits the way I think it should now, nice and even. I guess my rear springs were just shot. Maybe the previous owner hauled around some fat friends all the time.

good info, thx. I have been on the fence about what size spacer so I appreciate it.

I have heard some people say that too. I am going to put mine on eventually. I think I am saving up to do the shocks and maybe a sway bar at the same time.
