You've just taken delivery of your 6th gen...what's the first mod you do?
 

I'm curious what would be (or was) the first mod you would do if you had just purchased your Maxima? Doesn't have to be bang for buck, performance or cosmetic?

Just curious and trying to put together a top 3-5 list for mods on my soon to be delivered 07 SL.

To answer your question, definitely need to drop it. A car cannot look good at stock ride height IMO

Helping a car breathe easier is always a good step (short ram intake, exhaust, etc), rear sway bar. If you're gonna lower it, I'd recommend doing it right with coilovers.

Is there a budget?
Is there any particular work that's needed on the car? (replace with performance parts)
Do you like it as a quiet cruiser, or do you want a growling performer?
Is the stereo an option?

3. Lower front

4. Rims

If not wanting to go to deep, just stop right there.

First mod you should do is a tune up. Don't go throwing money into the car without finding the faults first. It will suck to invest in a car to put it up for sale a year or two after. Drive the car and see if yoiu like it before you start modifying it. Oil change, tranny flush and coolant , spark plugs, check your front end suspension to see if there's any defective ball joints, outter tie rod end, control arm, maybe you can throw in an aftermarket intake because it's about a $300 mod and DIY mod, also brakes and rotors.

Learn about the car, find the flaws, enjoy the car then come back and get opinions on performance mods.

Thank you all for the feedback--very much appreciated. I have no set budget for the mods and don't want to go too crazy but would love to learn. I'm competent in changing oil, replacing a battery and have gone as far as cleaning out an EGR valve on my old TL but that's about the extent of my automotive knowledge. Would love to learn!

I'm planning on taking it to a dealer and having them give it the once over--I know it's been serviced recently (oil, filter ATF etc.) but know it has a noisy A/C compressor too that will need to be replaced eventually. Is that a do-it-yourself project or one better left to the pros?

I really enjoyed the tight sporty suspension of the G35 I also considered but it was more than I wanted to spend for now. I don't want a rock hard car but don't want a floating cadillac either! :D Same thing goes for noise---refined noise is awesome and powerful. Noise for the sake of noise is beyond annoying.

Suspension mods just to make much more fun to drive and upgrade the lights and last but not least wheels, but nothing bigger than 19's. Anything bigger and your ride quality will be harsh. Audio wise just tap into the Bose amp and add a sub 2ohm.. Oh oh and get rid of the tooth fairy grille. Only thing worse are the modern day Acura grills...

I would probably got with a strut bar, sway, and new end-links, front and rear. The car is too spungy for me. She has lots of power, certainly for city driving, but she rocks when you come on the gas, and rolls when you put her in the corners. So, yeah, suspension stuff would be my first priority. After that, I would look for lighter wheels. That would certainly help in overcoming the initial inertia, while at rest, and subsequently boost acceleration.
