Battery Light On

Hello All,
On my way to work this morning (3:00am) my battery light and brake light lite up on dash. I pulled over to see if my belts was still in tack and they were. I made it to work but the lights stayed on. Now on my way home this afternoon (330pm) the car stalled dash got dimmed and no power from the gas pedal. I pulled over to the shoulder and the car went into drive it moved but weak . My battery is about 1.5 years old but I believe my alternator has died. If this is true does that cause everything else to fail? I got it towed to a indy shop waiting for the damage. How much is a alternator replacement? Also I didnt get the brake light on because my fluid level was fine and the emergency brake was fully released. Thank you all for any help!

This looks like a easy call its your alternator thas causing this problem will you are at it check the battery also it might need replacing. i would say the damage will be about 200 to 250 including labor

Good Luck

Fatboy,
Thank you for your immediate response. I was told to check the fusible links for the charging system. Does that sound right?

I also have 184,890 miles on my 2004 Maxima and never had a alternator problem. I got the car brand new in May 2003 as a 04 model.

Hello All,
Yes it was the alternator and it set me back 440.00. That included replacing the two belts also. The alternator was 223.00 with a lifetime guarentee. Shucks with 184,000 miles on my 2004 max she has already did a lifetime. Question ,does anyone know if you have o remove the radiator to replace alternator?

Mainly the shroud has to be removed but sometimes you still wont have enough clearance(might be bad motor mounts so the motor sits slightly forward....my guess)....and may need to removethe rad not to damage fins too much....if your a/c system is dry you can remove the a/c line that runs up from the compressor and then the alternator will come right out. Funny thing is this exact same thing happened to me yesterday and carshut off on the way for a new alternator smh

Blacka69,
Thats a bummer. If I had good weather here in the west chester,pa area, I would have attempted to put it in myself. Check this out, now I have nothing but cold air coming from my vents. I ran the car for 25 mins with the normal temp in tact, the car blew out cool air. My heat wasa very good prior to the indy removing the rad to install alternator. WTF! Did they forget to put some thing back correctly to cause cool air to come out. I put the temp to 90 and cool air. I am pissed too.

sometimes air gets in the system when removing the radiator, run it until the needle reaches warm with the radiator cap off and the heat on full blast making sure you dont need to add anymore coolant. when it gets warm you can raised the throttle and you will see little air bubbles coming up. after a while this should stop and you should have hot air once again. Just saw your response thats why mine is almost 2 weeks late. hope you got it fixed or this helps you too
