Is it better to get a 2004 with less miles or a 2007 with more?
Hi all. I'm looking to get a Maxima and I'm stuck between a 2004 with 55k mi at $9800 and a 2007 with 70k mi at $11300.
Is there any logic to go about when thinking about these types of situations? They both appear to be in good condition internally and within the engine bay.

I would probably go for the 2007 because the 2004 was the first year for that model and since then 2007 is only 2 year old before the new maxima released and they would have made big improvement in three years on the 2007 model

If you call a CVT an improvement then yes you are correct. Myself I would rather have the 5speed. That being said, the 2007 IMO would be a better buy due to the upgraded looks and having a warranty for the trans still. I don't think either would be a bad choice, but you could probably talk down the 2004 based on the 5speed transmission at least 2000. Good luck and please share pics of what you did choose.

well to start it is super expensive to repair. You are covered up to 120k miles I believe, but after that good luck. The shifting is so smooth, you hardly notice a shift ocurring. I will never buy a car with a CVT until it is perfected and cheaper to repair/replace. The main benefit is better gas mileage. I personally don't think the costs out weight mileage gained. The 5speed problems can be fixed for under $300 by replacing solenoids in the valvebody. After that very reliable. I have had my Transgo kit installed for over 3 years without an issue except for the 3rd gear band I broke by downshifting from 4th to 3rd at 80mph while only going 30mph. It was raining and seemed like a fun idea at the time. Fixed for under $1000. If it was me, I would buy the 04 for no more than 7500 and the 07 for no more than 9k.

Another thing I'm wondering is how is the aftermarket selection for both years? Since they're the same generation, I'm assuming they have roughly the same performance upgrades (IE air intakes, exhaust, etc.)?

So I decided on the 07! Everything about it was better. I got a little less than what they were asking but I got a warranty with it so that was great. Thanks for everyone's input!
My question now to you guys is what's the first thing I should do to keep my Maxima in top shape?

Just make sure the oil has been changed and that the air filter is ok. I would say thats the easiest.
Then if you want to do more, change all fluids, check/lube/bleed the brakes, etc....
