2004 Tensioner Guide Problem

Hello Maxima people-
A good friend of mine is thinking about taking on a job for his daughters car thats an 04 Max with what I suppose is a common problem with a fluttering noise in the timing chain caused by the Tensioner Guide. In short, what is involved in fixing this thing and can any of you guys point me toward any links that address this issue, and just how hard a job is it for us shade tree backyard mechanics :) ?
Thanks in advance, I use this site for my 99 Max and its always been the place for me to get the best info !

Oh boy now I've gone and done it haven't I ? Just what you guys love...a question that has its own encyclopedia already written about the subject :)
Well, as I said, this is the place for answers and I sure got it, although the news is pretty grim. It doesnt look like something me and my buddy are going to be able to take on and thats unfortunate. This is just a young struggling mom that can't afford to dump a few grand into this ridiculous defect.

<rant> Ya'know I've been driving a 99 max for years and have had very little problem with it other than having to carry spare coil packs around in the trunk with me, and I've highly recommended the Max to others only to see people buy later model Maxs and then have nothing but headaches with them. Apparently the Max has run its course as a reliable performer

Thanks again guys for the info. You guys are the best.
