B1049 Driver Air Bag Module (Open) on 2007
Air bag warning light turns on even after clearing SolusPro scanner code, "B1049 Driver Air Bag Module (Open)". I am concerned my driver's side air bag will spontaneously release or not release at all when needed. If something happens to the driver, all passengers are at risk of fatal injury. I contacted Nissan North America, and was told the diagnostic had to be run by a dealer mechanic before they can do anything. They also informed me that there is no campaign currently open for my issues. The body issue is with poor paint or clear coat quality common to Nissan vehicles. While the rest of my car looks fine, the hood and the roof look horrible. Like someone took sandpaper to the clear coat and the color is faded and getting worse as time passes. I am very disappointed in Nissan for this cosmetic detail. I traded in my 2005 because the roof liner sagged as soon as I began driving with the sunroof open. I hope that the results of the air bag issue are as minor as the cosmetic issues, otherwise Nissan is going to have some serious problems on there hands.

I have the same problem on my 2007. I bought it used at about 127,000 thousand miles; now has about 136,000. The first week I had the car I was playing with everything; also parked tight against curb which caused steering wheel to lock. I had to shake the p--- out of it to unlock. Something happened that caused my airbag light to come on. I can easily reset it using my scanner or the manual way; however it will not stay reset. Have driven it for almost a year with light on, no problems. I took my airbag module out and checked the wires and connections, everything seemed ok. I have read that it is a incident that needs erased, not reset by the dealer. My dealer wants 98 dollars to do this with no guarantees. I have decided to live with the light. Good luck.

If all connections are intact, the FSM calls attention to three things: the air bag module; the spiral cable; and the airbag diagnosis sensor unit. I'd give the sensor unit the least consideration because it's somewhat far removed from tampering in this context. It is located under the shift lever area, and except any serious work had gone on there I thing the unit with its connections should be intact. On the airbag module, except it has experienced some impact/ physical damage (as to have fallen on the ground for example) it's less likely to develop its own problems. On the other hand the spiral cable controls all the electronics in the wheel steering area and so very likely to have caused a short for the airbag. Nissan does not sell the spiral cable alone, it comes as a unit with the combination switch. At any rate, all the three options are expensive to address. The spiral cable is, however, the cheapest.
Btw, check if all the control buttons on the steering wheel are functioning well.

2005 Nissan Murano SL B1049
I have a 2005 Nissan Murano SL and the "Airbag" light blinks on the dash and have been told by someone that hooked up a computer that it generates B1049 code. The dealer has "reset" the system but it reappears blinking after a few hours. Any suggestions short of going to a dealership and paying $130 just for a diagnosis? Is there a way to "reset" the system?
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback! I searched by VIN on parts.nissausa.com and found that 25560-ZK01D Steering Column Switch fit my car, but it looked like the actual Airbag Clockspring is part # 25567-CD025. Appreciate the help!

A word of caution. #25567-CD025 is applicable only on 350Z (2002-05).
