my max almost didn't turnover and start

I have a 09 with about 61k miles.

It was sitting undriven for about 3 days until I finally started the engine, the start up seem to "chug chug chug" and wouldn't start. I shut it off and tried it again, more "chug chug chug"....shut it off and fired it up again and fortunately it started on the 3rd try.

I haven't had the same problem every since.

anyone know what the problem could have been ?

These batteries are known to give out pretty early. Might be time to go aftermarket.

Agreed. Funny thing is, my dealer had no problem fixing anything else on my car. Oddly enough, the battery was the one thing they WOULDNT fix. I had a 2010 with just 20K on the odometer and had acid leaking out through the fill caps. Went and got a Deka battery (CarQuest) sealed top unit with a 5 year warranty for $120. Great investment.

Actually the batteries were replaced with some generics from kragen.....is this what cold cranking amps are all about ?

Not just CCA's, but also stability under fluctuations in hot/cold temps. CCA is definitely a key factor for folks who see pretty brutal winter months.

I know some folks who have worked in the automotive sector for 30+ years, and they all rave about Deka batteries. You can pretty much drop the thing from 6 feet onto asphalt, torch it, freeze it, throw it back in the car and it'll still fire right up lol.

Yep that happened to me on my 09 Max when I was washing my car and had the radio on for about 30 mins without the engine on replaced battery with the optima redtop.

ya but mines a little different situation, I left my car undriven for about 3 days and thats the reason for the start up problem.

is it due to the battery being cold? or another reason

There are several things that keep powered up even with the ign off, computers, clocks etc. You can get a test done on the battery and see if it is ok or not, I took my 2011 in for a oil change and they found the battery bad and the car was running great, and just incase anyone has battery problems with their 2011 the warrenty on batteries has been changed to 3 yrs. 36000 mi.
