I would contact RotorPros. They have great brake packages. I'm running their slotted rotors with ceramic pads all around on both my Maxima (6th gen bbk) and my Murano

2009maxima sv-sport 02-23-2012 12:21 PM

i been looking at ebc brakes are they any good i like there race pads

COOLWHP 02-23-2012 01:35 PM

Search for Brakemotive on Ebay... They have some of the best quality stuff money can buy... Super reasonable as well... Just did all four rotors and pads on my car and couldnt be happier....

Ghozt 02-23-2012 02:59 PM

i got Alien drilled/slotted rotors, ceramic brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, and dot 4 Motul brake fluid that I just put on my whip. stops on a DIME. the Alien brakes are popular among the my6th and m7thgen.org sites and many people using them with Wilwood BBK's too and other BBK's.

I got in on a sweet *** group deal on those forums and paid 350 including shipping. Best money I've spent on the car so far. If you're interested check out those forums and search on Alien brakes they're sick. Just took a couple hours to install.

how much dot 4 Motul brake fluid did you need and how hard was the rotors to replace they look great.

vr4z06gt 02-23-2012 04:34 PM

based on the pics, looks like he swapped the brake lines. So you will need someone competent to bleed the brakes. The rotors are direct factory replacements. So that is a fairly simple job. Put the EBrake on. Jack up the car. Take off the wheel. Remove the caliper. Swap the rotors. Some brakes require shim kits for the pads some don't, you will have to look. Swap the pads. Swap the lines. Bleed the brakes. Put it all back together. If this were just a brake job, no lines or fluid bleeding, 20 minutes to do both wheels. With lines figure 45 to an hour to properly bleed the brakes. You don't want to rush that, it goes without saying that this is a vital safety component of your vehicle.

Ghozt 02-23-2012 05:11 PM

i used 2 bottles cuz I flushed it all out then had to bleed the brakes to get air bubbles out.

the rotors /pads werent hard at all. just need a breaker-bar to get some of those tough bolts off the calipers. cleaned everything up with brake cleaner and a little wire brush, greased every moving part(piston/slides) and the back/sides of the pads, put everything back together with the new rotors/pads, pumped the brakes, went and did the bed-in and they've been working great. i did my front axle first (just rotors/pads) and drove around and bedded them in, then did the rear axle a week later, and did the brake lines/brake fluid a week beyond that separately.

i did it this way partially because im not a pro at brake-work and wanted to make sure i had at least 2 working brakes in case anything went wrong, and partially so i could see the braking power slowly increase with each stage and see exactly what the rotors vs the brake lines did. im impressed with the brake lines there is absolutely no more mushy feeling and things are flying off my seats all the time now lol.

vr4z06gt is right if you just did pads/calipers you dont need to disconnect the brake lines/bleed brakes (you hang the caliper using a wire hanger so it doesnt dangle from the brake line) and it can be quick (if you know what you're doing). if you dont id recommend getting a buddy who has to either help you or do it themselves or paying someone cause you do NOT want to mess up a brake install because it can be LIFE OR DEATH.

Alien used to only sell on eBay and have been migrating into the forums for promotion recently. if you want to hit them up their email is alienbrakes@yahoo.com.

Nice... I love the combination.. Looks very sporty yet elegant ....

Ghozt 02-23-2012 06:00 PM

oh also the motul brake fluid was purchased separately and probably isnt necessary unless you're gonna track the car so sorry to imply that was included with the alien brakes deal.

thanks guys

PSU09MAXIMA 02-23-2012 06:38 PM

Looks good Ghozt

longisland09maxima 02-23-2012 08:23 PM

Are bigger rotors available? I love the slotted look but would love a rotor that took up more space. I dont know much about brakes. Can this be done without bigger pads?? Or is that known a Big Brake Kit?

Ghozt 02-23-2012 08:29 PM

yea you can get bigger rotors (14") with a BBK. cant run them with our stock caliper bridge cause the caliper wont fit around the rotor.

Pearl09Max 02-23-2012 09:00 PM

i have hawk hps and i love them they stop on the dime!

Amerikaner83 02-23-2012 09:11 PM

dumb question but will these alien ones fit on a stock 4th gen SE?

ehhh it might be a smaller rotor lol im not sure though

Ghozt 02-23-2012 09:37 PM

i dont know if these would fit the 4th gen. what is the lug pattern and diameter of the 4th gen rotors?
you can probably email them and ask if they have a set for the 4th gen im sure they can help you out

hawks are great, when these that came with my set are done im going with hawks too

Pearl09Max 02-23-2012 09:45 PM

yea i think they are half ceramic so they make waaaay less brake dust and they stop better too

Lug pattern is the same on all Maximas. The rotors wont fit our 4th gens tho. Its a common thing for people to swap 6th gen brakes or z32 brakes on our cars but not just rotors. Gotta be the whole packages as far as I know.

Amerikaner83 02-24-2012 06:15 AM

Good to know. May keep brake swap in mind when the time comes

2009maxima sv-sport 02-24-2012 09:34 AM

ok i went with EBC 3GD Slotted & Drilled performance Brake Rotors front and rear and the EBC yellowstuff brake pads also ordered 2 bottles of Motul brake fluid and Goodridge Nissan Maxima stainless steel Brake Lines (2009-2010) 22136 will keep people posted.

Ghozt 02-24-2012 10:59 AM

EBC makes good stuff too, I had green stuff pads with my stock rotors they were pretty good. Good choice on the Goodridge brake lines those are #1 in terms of quality. You're gonna love your brakes man really good choice in an upgrade

thanks man ,i cant beleave it but i ordered the rotors lastnight and they just got dropped off from fedfx only down fall is they gold colored but thats ok ill paint them black.
all together i ended up costing me $790 for all the rotors and pads fluid and brakelines shipped front and rear i almost bought the stillen bbk but it was $2290 for front and rear shipped :bawling:

Pearl09Max 02-24-2012 06:00 PM

sorry for the dumb question but why is it called for to have the metal brake lines?

gbech 02-26-2012 03:34 AM

Usually it would be steal braided, low expansion rubber/silicon blend for brake line. The benefits of moving away from standard brake lines is non- existent for most people in most driving situations.

It's based on how they deal with heat. When the brakes get used repeatedly in higher stress situations (autoX or track days) the temperature of the brake fluid will rise dramatically. This causes expansion of the brake line which in turn can cause significant brake fade leading up to potential braking failure.

A steal braided long prevent most of the expansion and allows you to maintain more consistent pressure longer. Usually most race oriented brake lines are a combination of metal and steal braided for use. Downside of all metal is typically they don't fully support the full extent of wheel travel required for a stock suspension. They Are also more temperature sensitive in the cold as you get started.....

If you are going to upgrade your brakes (size, more aggressive pad) steal braided lines (typically 80-150 per axel) is an excellent way to go.

Ghozt 02-26-2012 05:29 AM

^ yes exactly. normal brake lines are rubber and flex under high temp/high pressure situations like hard braking you'd do at the track. less flex = less mushy feeling = more response in higher stress situations basically. dont cheap out on brake lines either, the connections can blow off when you stomp the brake

and yeah brake lines aren't necessary for a daily driver. same with high temp Dot4 brake fluid or a BBK. im looking at a 4 piston BBK for the front only but sure as hell not paying Stillens prices lol those guys are crazy. we'll figure out how to use the 370z BBK for a nice oem look.

nismo2010 11-15-2012 05:35 PM

Sorry to bump this old thread but was wondering how are those Alien rotors holding up after using them for these past few months. Thinking about changing my rotors and looking for some good ones that won't break my wallet.

Ghozt 11-16-2012 05:14 AM

so far so good; everything holding up great and still stopping great. only thing id have done in retrospect is maybe get some better pads, the ones they include are generic ceramic ones. HAWK HPS or EBC Reds would make this great, but it's already pretty damn good.

bommart 11-16-2012 11:30 PM

i want to get aftermarket rotors (will need them soon anyway) and probably will change the pads as well. I want a setup that will not squeek etc. any recommendations?

Thanks Ghozt! One other question regarding the SS brake lines. What brand are they and did you change the rear lines as well. Thanks.

gizzsdad 11-26-2012 11:46 AM

After quite a bit of research, I just ordered dimpled and slotted rotors from brakeperformance.com, along with their premium semi-metallic pads.

Lifetime guarantee - really looking forward to this.

Staggered357 11-26-2012 12:10 PM

I am still loving the rotors from alien brakes... No rust on hub... Black paint is still holding up...I kept the factory pads... I am eventually going to get the akebono front and rear setup...i want to do the Stillen kit but there is no rear kit by Stillen and I get all 4 for cheaper than Stillen kit... Just makes sense...
