For the cable below, I read that if you buy a cheap cable you'll get interference and dis-connectivity and stuff but so far I have none of that happen. Quality is great and sound is clear.

Here's the guide to bypass the mute/blank video function when car is in motion. This is a must do if you want to entertain your guest while driving. Very easy to do.

Take your time and connect the wires properly and carefully. Took me 2 days to install this thing by myself.

I want to keep the factory stereo intact but also want to play music on my iPhone through the car stereo. Car is a 2012 Maxima S. no navigation and no satellite radio. It does have the AUX button for the 3.5mm input. No USB port though. I want to control the music on my iPhone through the factory radio and steering wheel controls. Has anyone found adapters or integration kits that do this?

Inline with this thread, I've been thinking about picking up an old mac "mini" and sticking it in the center console. Hook up a 1 TB drive to it and bam, computer with 1.25 TB storage in my car. The nice thing, is the mac mini has a very low power draw even though you would need to run it from a higher source then the lighter possibly. will research this later.
Also, if Macs aren't your thing, you can simply exchange that for an older laptop.
If your wondering what the solution would be for the KB/ mouse... Simple, blue tooth Tablet keyboard with touchpad: http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-Entertain...747308&sr=1-15
Would be small enough to fit in the center console, or under the drivers seat. Going to be a while before I do this all since it would cost a bit of time/money, but will totally be doing this in the future.

From my knowledge
From what I see here he took off the AMBER display, disassembled it, and used the mounting brackets for the 7" screen he has there. Only 2 wires on the 7" screen I believe is Accy and Ground if I'm not mistaken so pretty easy to hard wire. Then purchased the Composite AV cable for the iphone so he could plug it up from the 7" screen to his jailbroken iphone which has TVout and Springboard rotater. You could hear music because he has it streaming through bluetooth to the radio. Pretty easy install and I had sort of an idea to see if you could fit the little screen for the climate control somewhere on the dash panel maybe underneath the radio....

This great post has died and I want to bring it back up. I'm also interested in this thread.
I have a 7" android tablet and would like to replace the OEM amber screen with it and move the temp info display to the bottom.
This is just an idea..

Have you thought about putting the AC controls underneath your unit by cutting out the plastic? Either way - great work!

I have a lower end 2010 SV no nav or DVD. I'd like to get more out of the display - would my phone's nav display on screen with a setup like this? Anyone found a way to play audio through USB with an Android device? I have a 3.5 mm Jack -> red/white audio input that can deliver music but does not allow for dash control/on screen display; can only change tracks via phone. Sound quality suffers.
Thanks!

Ok answer to your first question. How did I relocate the display.
The display is made up of two displays, not one. Top is for a factory S Radio and the bottom is for the air. I wanted to of course keep the air display in case I needed to change something. I never really messed with it.

This picture shows the four screws that need to be removed so see the two displays.

As you can see in this pic. The bottom AC display is missing. its held by two screws on each side.
Once I had the display out, I needed to figure out how to wire it. Easy, I just used 16 gauge primary wire and extended one by one.

I then fished it over to the glove box through a small space by the trunk electronic lock. It was a perfect spot to build a small panel to hold the display.

I of course measured the glove box for it and placed double side tape to hold display with the panel I made.
This is how the AC display looks in the glove box. Im able to view it from the drivers seat in case I need any adjustments.

I did not use any factory radio parts or audio components. I removed and bypassed everything. This will not work with the factory radio since you need the radio display, without it its hard to manage only the factory radio. I hope this helps. I actually took the pics while I removed everything from the Maxima. Last chance to take pics.
Tomorrow I will show how to mount the display. Nothing gets destroyed.
TO gormehn: Yes, you can possibly do everything. For example if you use a premium Android device with HDMI out, you can get an HDMI to composite adapter. Your phone will send video and audio to this adapter by HDMI, which in turn converts into composite video and analog audio for an aux. Connect composite video to monitor and use AUX in for the audio. Your phone, especially an android will mirror your phone without rooting or "jailbreaking the device" You get all your apps, NAVI, Radio Streaming, caller id for calls.
If you need more info, dont hesitate to respond.
