Joining 7th Gen'ers! - couple questions

Hi Guys,

I will be picking up my brand new white 2012 Maxima S Limited Edition tomorrow night! I am excited based on how much everyone here seems to love their cars.

I have been on the .org for quite some time now in the 5th gen area and in OT. I am trading in my sterling mist '03 SE 6MT. I love that car and am not looking forward to the moment I have to walk away from it for the last time tomorrow :bawling:

Quick question about the audio system. The 2012 S will have the base audio system. When I was talking to the sales reps, they said that the base system is also by bose which surprised me

So I was wondering if i decide to upgrade the speakers or head unit, will I run into the same issues that I did with the bose system on my '03 where the amps run at 1 or 2 ohm which isnt compatible?

I assume the real bose system that comes with the SV would have those same issues, but I wasnt sure about the base system in the S.

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Kevin

Sorry, lol, but I don't know the answer to your audio questions. But I did want to say welcome to 7th gen! The car is great. Hopefully the audio can be up to your expectations soon also!

Yes, all Bose stuff is "incompatible" pretty much globally.

Factory bose is 2ohm.

Speaking of 2 ohm's...

Yeah Bose are designed specifically to operate at that low impedance, if you swap out just the speakers you won't get the most out of them unless you do the head unit as well. The Bose stuff sounds great with the Bose stuff, it's not so much an "issue" just how Bose designs their equipment. Sure makes you want to get all Bose if you get anything Bose; must be a marketing tactic or something.

Thanks for all the info guys, but to clarify, my car will NOT have the bose package. Its just the base system that comes with the S.

I am quite familiar with the bose crap from my 03 which had the bose package.

So I was wondering if even the base audio system that comes with the S would have the same 2 ohm issues.

Even the base system is still bose.

my 2011 maxima im pretty sure had 4 ohm speakers. And mine is the base system.. But i put in hertz audio component speakers up front. Hertz 6x9's on the back deck and ran a 50w rms 4 channel to them. And added 2 12" hertz subs in a slotted box with a 1600w amp @ 2 ohms.. It sounds perfect. Installed it ran about $2500 with my discount.. Worth every penny in my opinion.. But with the base system upgrading is not bad at all from what the audio shop told me. Unless the 12 model is different. Do your self a favor and drop $900-$1000 for hertz audio speakers and a 4 channel amp installed.

Check crutchfield, there are a few aftermarket 2ohm speakers. I checked some time ago with my old altima. Not sure how it would turn out.

Yesterday I bought a 2012 Maxima S Special Edition as well, however I have zero audio modification experience.

Just to clarify, if I decide to switch out the head unit do I also have to switch out the speakers and amp?
