My Goal is Performance so i'm looking into some nice Performance All season Tires. 245/45 (or 40)/R19 ...

Been Looking at some Sport Dunlop and Hankook tires but could use some input...

also: Does anyone have a Tire wider then a 245 on their max? If so does it improve performance?

When does the Aspect Ration start to effect performance?

 

I have 245/40/19 Hankook Ventus V12's all-around on my Rays and love them. they handle great in the rain, WAY better than the RS-A's.

Grant it I don't have a 7thgen, but other 7thgens have done same. Car handles and feels a little more planted. I handle curves like nothing. But don't do like me, I am a risk-taker and have never babied my Maxima. I am obsessed with my car being as safe as I can make it to be. So, I do a lot of maintenance as I deem necessary. I don't play with brakes and tires and every other maintenance on the car.

Then decide and know that the 255/40/19 would work great on the stock 19x8. I have topped 130mph with my Max and I do 120mph any day I get into my Maxima for a trip more than 2 hours away. Its just me. Don't do like me. But I keep my car super great and trust my car like I trust my judgement.

Good Read, I read the whole thread on tires.... 255 sounds good but if i did i wouldn't put it on stock wheel i would go with an 8.5

And going with an 8.5 + a 255 = more weight of the rim and more air i nthe tire... it's a balance of performance.. do you want more speed , then maybe a 245, 40 19 would give you more... idk... or maybe the wider grip of the 255 would cause you to have better grip..... it's a good battle

 

I considered going from a 245 Michelin Pilot Super Sport to a 255... but lets be real here; 10mm more width per corner really isn't increasing your contact patch much on an 8" wide rim. A 245 width is actually the perfect size to keep the contact patch as flat as possible on the OEM wheel. The overall diameter of a 245 40ZR/19 is 26.7" and the 255 in the same spec is 27.1", so the speedo is going to be off. Also, the shoulder blocks and sidewall of the 255 on an 8" wide rim are going to bulge more unless you adjust the tire pressure accordingly. Unless the tire you're buying has a super stiff sidewall like mine, going up one width really isn't that much of a difference.

Now, going from a 245 to a 265 width is a massive difference in lateral grip at each corner (and my plan next spring with a 9" wide wheel all around).

Just my .02 cents for whomever wants it lol.

 

When it comes to speed, I believe 245/40/19 might be the best compared to 255/40/19. But going all the way to 265 will mean you MUST have new set of rims. Well, I didn't have money for a new set of rims and I truly love the 7thgen wheels on my car. So, I had to see what minimal change I could make on my car. And yes, the 255/40/19 makes a whole new difference for me. There is NO buldging of my tires. And I run 36psi in the tires.

So, you going 265 is for anyone that wants to buy new rims. but for people staying witht heir stock 19 inch rims, 255/40/19 is a great alternative to 245/40/19, when replacing your tires. I have done it and will continue doing the same thing till I sell this car after 250,000 miles.

 

You could widen them a 1/2 - 1 inch and then get spacers for a more aggressive look.

 

Would a larger tire affect your speedometer and odometer?

 

A larger tire affects your speedometer, NOt your odometer. But when you talk about a larger tire, you will need to specify what size, so you can know how much it affects your speedometer. Mine is the 255/40/19, it does affect my speedometer, but by how much?

When I am driving and my speedometer is at 60mph, I am actually doing BUT 59.2mph. This is according to some tire calculators out there.

Concerning tire brand, I have always had good luck with the Toyo Proxes 4 and Yokohama Avid Envigor. I do prefer the Toyos though.

 

I have heard great things about the Toyo tires. I am sure you will be happy with them. As for me, I wish I had the Michelin Pilot Sport. But it is too expensive. So, I settle for the Yokohama Advan S4, which I truly love a lot.

Whatever you do, get you some great tires and a great radar detector like I just got me the Escort Redline. Then drive safe and steady and enjoy your ride.
