Rocking drivers seat in 2012
I've seen many posts regarding the rocking driver seat problem for various year 7th gens but I was wondering how many have had it in 2012s. I have a brand new 2012 and my seat does it ever so slightly. Also, is there a TSB on the seat issue?

Personally, if its something you can live with, I say leave it alone. I've had my 2010 "repaired" twice and I'm still not happy. Having parts of the seat fall off after the first "repair" was an added bonus.

stop having relations in your maxima.

Not me. Every time you turn on the seat heater you'd get a nasty smell....
I just bought my '12 Maxima last Saturday and had the same slight rocking problem of the drivers seat. It wasn't huge, but it's a brand new car and taking off fast or stopping fast you can definitely feel the rocking.
I took it back to the dealer and pointed it out to them and they took the seat apart figuring they just needed to tighten a bolt (which is what I was thinking as well) and put it back together...no luck. They took it apart the next day when they had more time and found that there was a broken part inside (they didn't say what) and that that part couldn't be replaced individually so they had to order a whole new seat. Hopefully the new seat fixes the problem because now the rocking problem (after they took it apart a couple of times) is much more pronounced. :( |
That's what worries me. It bothers me to have an issue with a 40K car with 3000 miles but I keep hearing stories about the problem just being dragged out. I think I'm going to call my dealer and speak with the service mgr to see if he has dealt with this in the past. I want a solid game plan in place before they touch my car.

What you get for color and model? Are you as awestruck as I am? What an amazing car!
Does anyone know of a TSB for the rocking drivers seat in a 2012?
My 09 does it, I read so much about no one ever getting it fixed that I left it alone

Anyone attempt to fix it themselves? |
Sometimes I wonder if part of what I'm noticing is movement of the adjustable thigh support. If you stand outside the car and grab it, there is definitely up and down movement to it. I can also feel movement in the entire seat but I think the thigh pad might be adding to the movement sensation.
My 2012 has it and I notice it maybe once a day. I left it alone, because over the years every car I have had with a power seat has had some kind of slight rocking and people on those vehicle forums never were able to get it resolved.
Not a good look for Nissan when they cant fix a seat problem within three years. I was wondering if they fixed it with the 12s guess not. Maybe the 13 model
i got a '10 and last month i took it in for that problem.. and problem was fixed.
same problem. they replaced the seat base 3 times now and i'm only at 31000 km.... go imagine, the third time the service manager kind of taught that the manufacturer wanted to save money by not fixing the issue.... WTF!
anyway its a lease with full warranty till the end. |
My 12 does this as well. I thought about taking it back but like stated I don't want broken tabs and stuff on the trim
I had it in my 2010, dealer fixed it but it came back. Have a new 2012 now and the problem is not there.
I hate it that these new cars are having such minor issues that are unresolved, but inj all reality Nissan doesn't produce quality cars anymore,
I have this problem in my '09. I'm getting the car serviced today so I'm going to ask them about it. It's not major but I'm at 35,670 and I am curious.
The service guy told me it's normal with power seats. My wife's Murano doesn't do it though. I don't think they want to deal with it and it's not a big enough problem for me to raise hell about it.

An hour later he brings me the paperwork showing that the seat track is broken and low and behold there is a TSB reference on the paperwork. |

I took my old '10 to the dealer ship and complained enough and they replaced the whole track. I never experienced any issues afterwards. Hopefully my '12 won't do the same thing.
I'm going for it at the dealer. Going in 9/27. I'll let you know how it goes.

Update
Brought my 2012 in for it's first oil change. Had dealer check the rocking drivers seat. Two mechs and the sales manager who is a friend of mine and always drives a Max couldn't detect it. It is very slight so I guess I'll live with it for now. At least it's on record in case it gets worse. Replaced passenger mirror due to moisture in signal.
2nd update
Brought my max back to dealer for 2nd oil change and by then the rocking had become more noticeable. Dealer offered to order new seat undercarriage which I took them up on. I still think they couldn't really feel it but we're doing this to appease me as I am a good customer of theirs. Brought car back in about a week later and had the work done. Seems to have done the trick without any noticeable damage from the work they did.

Hey guys the rocking seat problem is a broke seat frame, and its not covered by the Nissan warrenty, thats why they tell people crap like stuff is caught in the track. I argued with Nissan for six months about my seat and the best they would do is offer to pay for half of the price to replace and install the seat frame. i got a new motor out of the deal though..
Mine is going in for the second time to get fixed under warranty
I want mine fixed but I am hoping a real solution will come along soon.
2011 here. Took it in, they replaced the seat track. They said it was fixed. It rocked the first stop light out of the dealers lot. I took it back and they admitted it seemed they didn't fix it properly and had to order more parts. I said forget it i will just live with it i can't go another day without my car. My dealer does not give loaners.
Probably 8 trips to three different dealers to get the rocking seat fixed in my 2009. It required full replacement of the frame under the seat. The slight rocking drove me nuts, so I stuck with it till it was fixed. The TSB number for the issue in the 2009 model year was NTB09-092. Wasn't the last issue I had with the car, so I finally gave up and got rid of it, but the rocking seat was fixed after the second replacement of the seat frame.
I had the same problem with my 2010 Murano. The dealer replaced the seat track, problem solved.

I don't know much about this stuff, but my seat track was replaced three times already and it still rocks, no change whatsoever. It's quite obvious the dealership mechanics have no clue what they're doing. I'm going to look into having my own mechanic order and replace my seat frame for me. I'm happy to pay to get it fixed. |
Is this an issue with both the driver and passenger seats? I'm having an issue with both seats vibrating when driving However that could be because the vehicle was sitting on the lot for so long and the wheels may not be balanced. Nonetheless I shall be bringing it to a dealer really soon .
I've been told by people in service that the dealer intentionally overinflates the tires on cars on the lot so that they don't develope flat spots from sitting as long as they do. Check your pressures.
Yep - same issue here on my new 2012. Just took it in for the first oil change and the service manager said he could feel the rocking and wants to schedule an appointment. He was very helpful so I might actually let them work on it. Like some of you I'm just as worried that they break or scratch something as I am about the actual rocking. A little frustrating to have this with a new car but otherwise I'm living the dream...
