Paintless Dent Removal

Well at 2200 miles my 2013 got a door opened into it. It's a very small ding but in the right light and angle shows

Has anyone used paintless dent removal ?

Any idea what it costs and does it work ?

I hate having car fax show an auto body visit for this

Image is uploaded below

Thanks

I've seen some miracle jobs on some cars where the PDR makes it so that it seems that the dent was never there. However, I couldn't get it done on my car because of the place of my dents is in between braces inside the door. Best to upload a picture for people to see. Upload the picture to a photo sharing site like Photobucket, and then under links, copy the one with IMG tags and paste it in a reply.

I had PDR done on a small dent on my driver side rear door. Cost me $75 and can't tell anything was ever there. Of course now I have a small one on the other side.

That dent appears to be in that creased area on the fender, I don't think that they can repair or touch a ding in areas like that. Also look like you lost a little paint.

Yes to both, bringing it to Nissan today

I had PDR done twice on my car. First time was because my car had a lot of dings in the doors. The second time was because someone hit my car when it was parked.

The dings came out fine and so did the dent in the front fender well. There are still scratches in the paint from when someone hit me but they are barely noticable. It's crazy how they do it.

Curious to what the dealer will say. My car has the same exact ding, same place on front fender, before I signed papers, they were like car comes as is. However CPO report clearly said car was free of dings, etc...

Anyways, guy who detailed my car said he wish I pointed that out to him sooner b/c his guy would have included it in the cost of the detail. If I recall he said it would cost me about $50-$75 if I decided to do it anytime after.

So the detail guy told you he could have taken it out ?

I'm pissed because you have to open a door HARD to actually dent a car and I know some people do this crap on purpose to new cars.

Detail guy has a PDR guy that was able to do it.

I had the same ding on the fender of my 6th Gen now that I remember. What's up with the same ding in the same place. Weak/poor metal perhaps or just a coincidence....

I'm guessing the lip sticks out a bit making it prone to get hit and is just a bit weaker

So did you actually have it done ?

I didn't yet. Can't justify paying him $75/job when it's almost inevitable something like this will occur again. When it does ill get em both fixed meanwhile I can live with what I have.

They said they can remove the dent as well as buff out a few clear coat scrathes I have for about $100

He is going on vacation so I'll post pics and let you know how it came out when it's done

I'm not sure how yours reflects the light but mne shows up from 20 feet away which amazes me for such a small ding, maybe it's the Crimson Black color

Anyway, about $100 with some buffing of out other clear coat scratches

MaximaATL2009 06-27-2013 06:15 PM

I work with a guy who does PDR and I know for a fact it can be removed but being that its on the crease it it wont be perfect

Since there isn't any paint damage and the car is darker, it hides itself a bit.

Almost seems like its not worth the effort IMO, good point.

My ding is on the passenger side anyways...so I barely notice it :)

Mine is on the passenger side also, yours must not catch the light the way mine does. Even though the ding is VERY small can stand 10 feet in front or behind the car and if I'm at the right angle it will show. I thin Crimson Blac is to blame as I have had dings in White cars that were bigger and much harder to notice

Well worth giving it a shot IMO, The guys seemed very confident he could get rid of it, 95 - 100 % were his exact words and he told me he wouldn't even bother if he didn't think he could make it right.

We shall see

Throw up some before and after pics if you could. Mine is as small as a tip of an eraser btw.

13Maximasv 06-27-2013 08:33 PM

This example looks near perfect and it had a large dent which went over the fender crease

Seems like with most proffessions skill can vary greatly from technician to technician

The actual work starts 4:00 in

Boslax6123 06-27-2013 08:40 PM

Good stuff on that vid

My Before pic is in this thread, my dent sounds about the same size as yours, have a look

Didn't think about looking there....

My ding is the exact same one, same size and same spot! Like I said this happened on my 6th gen too. Crazy.

Sure there are others??

I'll let you know how it turns out, seeing that video where the dent was over the fender crease on the Porsche and the owner kneeling right in front of it after the work was done and saying it was 100% made me feel better. I am sure skill makes a difference so hopefully my guy is good

13Maximasv 06-28-2013 05:29 PM

Does anyone know if PDR shows up on a CarFAX ? If it does show up is it as PDR or a body shop visit ?

I'll keep the before/after photos and hopefully the receipt will match the carfax date if it does show up.

Thanks

Depends on the body shop.

Probably not, PDR is a guy who comes around to the dealer and removes small dents, the dealer charges you 100 and gives the guy 40;) if you see him get his card, PDR, wheel scuffs, paint scratches, is small cosmetic stuff, body shop repairs that hit carfax are suppose to be a minimum of say 500 or 1000 dollars in damage, something that will effect the resale value, a ding is an eye sore not a reson to negotiate 2000 off the price of the car:p

http://i525.photobucket.com/albums/c...555/car007.jpgThe ding came out perfect, the chip is better but still remains but isn't noticeable unless you really go looking for it. I'm still amazes at how that small ding caught the light and was visible from so far away

Looks really good. Glad to see it actually works!

What did they end up charging you...??

$115 for the dent and to buff some clear coat scratches I couldn't get out

He said they spent 90 minutes on the car so a fair price I think

decarlnick 07-17-2013 08:30 PM

I'm lucky that there's a very experienced and talented PDR guy in my area. A few yeas ago I watched in amazement as he totally eliminated several dings in my 2003 G35. If the paint isn't chipped, and the ding isn't in one of the "bad" locations, they can be removed completely, like they never happened. My buddy must got an "almost" like-new BMW335is couple last week, and it had a push-in dent next to the sunroof. I watched the same PDR guy remove the dend -- not just good, or very good -- but perfect. My friend was thrilled. It was $100. Consider the alternatives, from leaving it to "conventional" repair method!! I think finding a person who really knows what they're doing and has a lot of experience is the key. And also, don't get wrapped up in how long they spent vs. what they charge. Consider the results, your alternatives, and the skills required to get results like these. By the way, so far, no dings in my 2010 Max SV. Knock on wood...
