2014 SV with sport/tech HID question
 

Hello everyone, I have a quick question with hopefully a easy fix/answer. My question is that my HID headlights look more yellow then the HID bluish/white look that other Maxima have and why is that? When I first start the car the lights are exactly what I love about HID. After they reach full temp they turn more yellow then anything. The color is actually close to matching the stock fog lights. Please help for an answer or possible fix. Thank you in advance

Well the stock temp the max comes with is 4300k so if you want that bluish/white then change the bulb to 6000k

Thanks for the quick reply but I don't think it's the bulb. I work with a couple guys who have 7 gen maximas and their stock hid color is much more white/blue crisp color. Could it be something with my projectors just being a little off?

I have to ask this, but are you sure you have the stock HID's in your car? I have a 2012 SV that has the projector housing but came with the H11 non HID bulb setup. No disrespect meant. I bought a 5000K HID kit and installed it myself.

Doesnt sound like you have oem HID, and if you do theres something seriously wrong with your bulbs

Yea agree with the guys.... dont think you have HID due to there is a BIG difference in look, but at the same time, cars are NOT perfect so might be a problem when it was built (ballast, bulbs,etc) your car is covered, take it in!

But if that doesnt work, if you DO have the HID system, just upgrade your bulbs!:D

Yeah, I 100% have HID headlights. Its a 2014 with the sport and tech package. The bulbs look great when the car first starts but as the bulbs reach the maximum temp they seem to lose the white/bluish tint to them. Could it be that the new headlights come with a smoked look to them? I don't know, maybe it's me being OCD?

Throw some pictures up man so we can help you get this figured out. And as said in a previous post the color is 4300K which does not have the blueish tint that a 6000K would. Hope you get it figured out. I just read the spec for your options that you had stated and it says the headlights are smoked:)

Could be because you have brand new bulbs, the HID bulbs color shift up in temperature the longer they're on over their lifetime. So the 4300K bulbs that start out as yellowish brand new will color shift to a pure white overtime.

Ok everyone, I'm going to give it some time being I only have 900 miles on the car and see if the bulbs change color at all. If not I'll change out the bulbs to different ones. Thank you everyone for your insight and help. Glad to be a new member. Be safe out there.

Honestly, they're not going to change color for a while. The newest Phillips bulbs are designed to never color shift. Of course they still do but much much later. Get yourself some Osram Cool Blue Intense bulbs. I love these bulbs, perfect color and after about 20 hours of use, they get a brighter white.

Do you have any pics of your car?? Upload them to photobucket, copy the link on the right side of pic when your on pbucket, then just post it on here... Took me awhile to figure out how to do it but thats the way... ALSO, plz take a pic during the day so we can see the NEW "smoked" look on them!

You definitely have stock HIDs with the SV Sport, and looking at your pics above it is confirmed.

I installed 4300k HID's in my fogs, and they are a bit whiter than the stock 4300k HID headlights. The reason for this is the projector housing. It is very common for the projector lens to reduce the whiteness of the light output, and the Maxima projectors do this quite a bit.

Car looks identical to mine as of right now. Tinted Windshield, love it.

Anyone know what bulbs go in the turn signals up front? I want to swap the amber bulbs for the silver ones that light up amber.

A little update for everyone. I have 6k hid bulbs coming from TRS and currently want to get rid of that amber look inside the headlight. I am currently debating on getting these...

Ok the only problem is that I know I'm going to need load resistors for them but I don't know which ones to get or even how or where to install them? If there is a tutorial on this I'm positive I can install them like a professional.

My other option is to order the Sylvania 3357A/3457A ST SilverStar bulbs and cut one of wires on the bulbs so they only light up when the signal is being used. I believe MIA_SHIFT did that successfully. PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance

I recently bought a 2014 maxima. The low beams are so dim you cannot drive without the high beams. I went to replace the bulbs and noticed it had halogen bulbs in it but looks like a projector headlight like pictured above. My question is did someone replace the hid with halogen somewhere along the line and if I purchase a set of hid will they just plug right in

i m not fond of those high intensity lights .... they blind the oncoming traffic and most drivers cannot
have any control on dark counytry one lane roads ... causing head on accidents...congress to have

We should probably start a new thread on this but I am more against poor maintenance than led or hid. Many will swap out bulbs and never check their headlight "alignment/aiming." You have to admit, the adjustment mechanism on our 7th gens is not the most convenient or accessible (at least on my 09/SV XID) and can take the patience of Job to accomplish. Add that we have no "left/right" adjustment, well I can see why you feel the way you do. Unfortunately, Nissan is not the only Manufacturer with this issue. But I do agree that the proliferation of European style rally lights with super bright lumen ratings with 20 or more lamps should not be allowed and policed better (even light bars that are allowed in off-road applications) and have no business on the highways but there will always be those who care less of others safety and drive with their brights on 7 X 24.
