Average cost of spoiler prep/paint? (Stillen)

Hey guys,

Back in July I purchased a 2014 Max S. Love the car.

Recently I found a great deal - $165 shipped - for a new in box Stillen rear spoiler (eBay). It is currently in my possession and I plan on getting it professionally prepped and painted.

I called two local body shops - both basically said "well we charge xx an hour...." I got a little smart with the second guy over the phone and told him this job is as black and white as you can get - prep and paint a brand new spoiler and it was unacceptable for him to not give me a straight price. I told him I would take my business to a shop that wouldn't try to **** me around. I work in a downtown area and there is a small independent shop on the main street. They told me to stop in on Monday for a quote so they can look at the spoiler personally...(Whatever, I guess I'll waste my lunch break - this is the kind of **** that makes it 'unenjoyable' to customize a car, dealing with mechanics and installers for work you cannot do on your own)

Do you guys have any thoughts on what a fair price would be? (Sorry I have no interest, skill or desire to do any of the prep work myself - I can do audio and oil changes that's about it)

Thanks in advance

If you get it done for less than $150 you will be doing pretty good if the shop is reputable. Why didn't you just buy one already painted, and save yourself a lot of phone calling and driving around?

You'll find that the price will vary quit a bit depending on who you talk to. The average will be about $200.

Thanks for the reference. I would have gladly purchased one already painted but AFAIK the Stillen spoilers only ship raw. Plus, I did save almost 100$ buying the spoiler on eBay vs. Stillen, so I can't really complain about that aspect; just the 'culture' of local body shops
