Our 2010 is about ready for new tires. Sensor light on the dash for some time now. I think the batteries are gone? Do I replace and if so, with what?

shouldnt be batteries. either a sensor is bad or the sensors locations need to be relearned

Actually FiveO is correct. These sensors DO have batteries in them, and they usually last anywhere from 5 to 7 years. The sensors are sealed units meaning you can't just change the battery, the entire sensor must be replaced. Just had one replaced last week, and one replaced last January. My car is an 09 Maxima with 94,500. It cost a total of $250 for the Consult to determine which sensor is bad, and the cost of the sensor. The only good thing is that it doesn't take long to fix. I was in and out of the dealership within an hour. Not too bad considering they have to locate the faulty sensor, remove the wheel, break down the tire, remove old sensor, install new sensor, rebalance tire, and relearn new sensor.

$250 ????? you have got to be kidding me. That is absolutely insane for something that takes a half hour and a $40 part.

I'm in the process of adding new wheel and tires. I'm debating between simply swapping them from my OEM wheels and buying another set of TPMS sensors. I would either sell my OEM wheels and tires or keep them for a winter set considering the tires are really nice. Does anybody know if you absolutely have to go to the Nissan stealership to reprogram the TPMS or can it be done by a store like Discount Tire of Tire Barn? I've talked to some people at discount tire and really didn't get an answer. I'd rather trust somebody that has gone through the same experience. I guess a better question would be how much would Discount tire charge if you buy your own TPMS sensors.

The aftermarket can serve your needs in this regard for a fraction of that ridiculous price for ONE sensor!

I have read several articles (and heard the TPMS presentation on Motor Week). They say that if your car is over 5 years old and a sensor battery dies, if you plan to keep the car more than another year, chances are another battery or two will die within that time.

In such a case, they say it may be prudent to replace all four units, saving further trips to the dealer and skipping the process to determine which battery is bad. They also say replacing all four could cost as much as $1,000, but deals can usually be worked out for much less than that.

I have three sets of wheels. A full set of TPMS from discount tire is $200, and they will reset it for me for free every time I swap my wheels.

So I am going to get new tires and I want to replace all 4 sensors. Where do I get them??
