Need a Little Expert Advice on HID's
Good morning all,
This is new to me, I just joined. I have a '11 Maxima SV that currently has stock halogen bulbs. I've ordered two new HID kits (35W) for my lows and fogs. My question is simply do I need to use a wiring harness to draw power strait from the battery or will the stock wiring be sufficient? Also, my plan is to remove the bolts in the side and top of the front bumper and simply "drop" it to access what I need. Will there be enough room for me to mount ballasts, run wires, etc or do i have to completely remove the bumper. Is this going to be a real *****? Any input from experience is GREATLY appreciated. |
I just plugged into the stock harness without using the relay kit supplied with it. 2 1/2 years later with no problems. You can also remove the fender liners to get access to the headlights and fog lights. There are a couple of threads on here about how to install HID kits. Good luck.

Thanks dmc. I'll def. check this out. I can't wait to get the halogen lights out. I've always loved HID but have found excuse after excuse not to make the change. I know it'll be well worth it in the end.

My 2012 had halogens in it when I got it and they sucked! Could not see a damn thing. You will be very happy with an HID upgrade. Get a quality kit so you are not replacing bulb or ballast.

Yo don't need to do all of that to get at the bulbs. For the headlights take the battery out and u can reach them, for the Fogs you can get at them if u take the push pins out of the front splash guard and fender liner, you don't need to take them all out just turn the wheels

A relay harness is definitely a good idea as the factory wiring on the halogen cars may not be the same as those for the OEM HID cars. As such, that specific circuit is not designed for the initial burst of energy required to fire HID components. A relay harness isolates power from the battery directly but still gets a trigger from the stock bulb connection, so it functions completely like stock while being safer than ballasts on OEM halogen wiring.
