Ignition switch left to ON = battery dead, I'm dumb but Nissan is dumber
 

Hi

After coming back from the dealer for a oil change, I decided to program a reminder for the next oil change. My car was shut off so I put the ignition switch back to on position and do my things... and I left the car without switching off the ignition . Next morning I woke up at 4 a.m. for work and the battery is dead . So I learn the hard way that if you put the ignition switch to on position and the car is not running. there is no alarm chime telling you that you are dumb to leave the car in that state.

Is Nissan dumber than me not programming a chime for this ?

Same thing happened to me while changing the cabin air filter. Turned the car on to blow some air through to clean it out. Left it that way for maybe 15 minutes, went to start, nada. Jumped it off the other car, all was good.


It should "time out" at some point to prevent that from happening.

Years ago you would have more than a dead battery. Once jump started you would have a misfire because the points in your ignition fused together then broke apart once the distributor cam turned.

The good old days.....
