curb rash

I looked at several Maximas before purchasing mine and noticed an interesting commonality...moderate to extreme curb rash on the wheels.
The previous owner of my car managed to do some minor damage to a couple of the wheels, but by far it has the best wheels of the several I looked at.
Do you think the style/offset contribute to this? Are people just trying to pull to close to curbs and not realize where the wheels are at? I looked at a number of Camrys and Accords, etc and didn't see NEAR the curb rash on those vehicles.

Finally, can one purchase the 18" factory wheels still?

yes, dealer not recommended ebay much cheaper

I think it's the hood's design with those flared sides. Or maybe my driver seat position could be better?! But yup design and ergonomics.

I don't have any problem parking this thing against a curb, but design and ergonomics + marginal curb parking experience = curb rash.

lol...maybe Nissan should have put 'curb feelers' on the car for those who are uh, "challenged" to park without rashing the wheels.

Anyone remember these things (feelers)?
