Installing Additional 12v Outlet

The thing I mostly dislike about my '14 Maxima is the location of the 12v outlets. To use the one in the console, I have to dig through everything stored there. If I want to use the one in the tray, I can't use the tray for storage. I've had to dig out small articles that have fallen into the outlet dozens of times.

I'd like to install an additional 12V outlet, possible with a USB outlet, somewhere more easily accessible. The best location appears to be on the blank plate at the bottom of the center stack below the radio controls (my Max is the base version - the better equipped models may have controls/switches on the plate).

Has anyone done this? What is involved in removing that plate? Does it just pry off, or is it secured in some other way? Any advice would be appreciated.

I might be wrong, but the newer Nissan switch blanks (Circa 2004+) I believe have to be accessed from behind the mounting trim to extract them. A little more difficult than 2003 and before, where you could just pry them out from the front.

Actually I was able to pry it off. Ordered new flush-mount outlets. Will post pics when completed.

Mission Accomplished

I was finally able to install an additional 12v outlet that came with a USB insert. I bought two outlets and planned on installing both for a balanced look, however went with just one because, 1) I was lucky enough to drill the hole perfectly for the one and didn't want to push my luck, and 2) the second one would have been behind the shift ****.

No more digging every time I need to plug something in!

Nice. I would install the second one in the rear. Below the vents for the rear seat passengers. Easy to reach from the drivers seat. For some reason I always thought there was one already there.

I actually considered putting the second one in the rear below the console vent. However, I think the duct is located there. Also, I don't know how to access that area without cutting apart the inside of the console.
