Best tire for someone on a budget, any suggestions?

Don't skimp on tires. You go cheep you regret it. It costs the same to mount/balance/road hazard a set of tires, if the difference between crap and decent is $100-$150, spend the extra, they will last longer, and keep you safe.


That said, Size actually matters, depending on what size you are looking for, there are different cost effective ways to go. What size are you looking for?

Want to explain what your budget is. Hard to tell from just word budget. I was on a budget and got myself 4 Michelins from Costco, within my budget, great tires BTW, all though someone else budget could be 4 used out of a junkyard for less than a hundred.

I am looking for tires too and just joined here today (after just 6 years of ownership; to respond to a lame post I came across) looking for tire recommendations. I do like a deal, but I am not on any specific budget. I see Continental DWS06 as a vastly recommended product. Seems like it has a good mix of price+performance. Though I wouldn't call them inexpensive myself, they are cheaper than the other brands' (Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli) ultra high performance tires.

I am yet to get new tires. The Continental seems like the way I will go. My C Class came originally with Continental run-flat tires and they handled exceptionally well but treadwear was super quick. Then I switched to Pirelli. They were quieter for sure, but the drive isn't quite the same. My Max still has the OE Eagle RSA. Hopefully I can get some of that Continental feel back with the Maxima.

In that size, assuming you want an all-season, I would go with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S as my #1 pick. You do get what you pay for, so if you are looking for a tire that is cheaper, be prepared for shorter service life, higher noise, and potentially less traction in wet/snow conditions.

I took my Maxima into that big chain tire store that starts with Discoun......T..r. I had looked online at twenty different tires and done several side by side comparisons. It was enjoyable being able to have a decent tire conversation with the manager of the Bremerton WA store. He acknowledged my chosen tire as an ok brand. He pointed out that is also had a long tread warranty. He did ask me how I drove and how long I planned on keeping the car. He suggested a set of tires from Nitto. I have owned 43 cars in my time - yes, I had a problem earlier in life! Driving the car out of the tire store and taking a few quick corners...I made the right choice for my driving style. Big thank you to the manager and staff! The moral of the story is sure...an inexpensive tire with a good looking tread pattern may be enough if you don't plan on keeping the car for more than a year. I plan to drive mine for years and years. By adding $16.00 per tire I am feeling good. I have taken every excuse possible to drive today. Anybody need some errands run!

Get the best Ultra High Performance all seasons you can get for your budget. I'm on my second set of Cooper UHP all seasons on this car.

I just purchased Goodyear Eagle Sport All Season tires and I love them. They are quiet, smooth, and have done pretty well in the snow thus far. I live in Northeast Ohio where we get lots of snow. I just got rid of the Michelin MXV tires. They were just OK. I used to have the Michelin MXM tires which were outstanding and lasted me 112,00 miles!!!!
