Fuel gauge misreading - car won't start
I have a 2010, and have had zero problems until now. Randomly the fuel gauge will read empty and say there are zero miles left in the tank, and in fact if you start driving, the car will stall and not restart. However, I know there's gas in the tank. Today I started it and it said there was 1/4 left, so I went and filled up completely, and when I started it again, the gauge said I only had half a tank. Drove to the store, came out and started it and it read full.
I get that the gauge or the sending unit or the float are probably faulty, but my question is why - if there is actually fuel in the tank - would it stall, or not start in the first place? It stranded my wife and I on the freeway twice, and once in my driveway it simply refused to start - just turned over for about 15 seconds, but there was definitely 1/4 tank in there. Obviously not the injectors or the filter (i think?) because when the gauge is working, it runs perfectly. |

Around 130k. |
It appears your fuel pump is bad. It contains the sender unit for the fuel level and the filter assy. As you say, when the gauge is working so does the car, this means your fuel pump is working. I am guessing you will need to replace it.

I would check there first.. With that mileage.. Its probably time to replace that fuel pump.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I didn't realize all those things come as one unit.
