On the edge of being a new Maxima owner

Hey guys,

Hours away from purchasing a 2012 Maxima with 137km on it for approximately $10k CAD. Before then, I wanted to ask what are some of the common issues we’ve had with the 7th gen that I should be looking out for?

Are there any key things my mechanic (my uncle) should look for when we do a final inspection today?

Thanks! Any input would be most appreciated for a first time pre-owned buyer.

Honestly, that many miles,I wouldn’t do it. Not unless you have a complete service history,I mean a COMPLETE history. That many miles a lot of normal wear and tear parts should have been changed or are gonna need to be changed very soon. So yeah, might seem like a good price now, until things start breaking and wearing out. I wouldn’t do it. Your financial business is not my bussiniess but your better off spending a little more money for a lot less miles.
Good luck

Thanks for your quick feedback. Hmm. Interesting. It looks like it’s been serviced regularly with oil changes but not much on replacing parts. I have the CARFAX report here: https://vhr.carfax.ca/main?id=hlYo4Q...uxdABOGbHS8bax

I think Martinez got KM's mixed up with miles. 137000km is only about 85000 miles. And the conversion for Can to US dollars, that looks to be about $7500 US. In all honesty, of course presuming it has some features and isn't a base model, then that's really not a bad deal.

As far as problems, It's always wise to at least price out extended warranty. You're well outside the powertrain coverage. You really can't just look at a car and test it a few times and find all the problems. Could take days or months for any hidden problem to surface.

Dang I didn’t even see that it was km. Complete oversite on my behalf.

Phew. I feel so relieved reading this, thank you! I will look into warranty options thanks.

Glad its being sold at a Volkswagen dealership so at least it’s not a mom and pop shop.

@Martinez1031 No worries, I’m sure majority of the users here are from US. :)

Hi,

I would check the following:

Brakes and Rotors
Calipers
Tires for wear
Bearings maybe
Also Led Mirror lights if fitted, they always go and cost $500 to replace...

Nissan maxima are great cars provided they are maintained, get an extended warranty if you can definitely worth it

CVT fluid replace if it hadnt been done.

Man if I had a relative mechanic and a shop to work in, jesus christ I'd rip the car apart and make it live forever!

Thank you, thank you for all your feedback everyone! Both my uncle (mechanic) and my aunt (driving instructor) thought it was a great ride with little to no issues.

So I’ve picked it up and joined the 7th Gen Maxima club!

Thinking of the following mods... thoughts on the following? Any recommendations on sources aside from Kijiji would be appreciated. First time-modder here.
1) Rims
2) Halogen lights
3) Remote autostart
4) New deck
5) Front bumper lips

Post better pics, at least better than the crappy snow dealership pics. Congrats on the new car, you'll love it.

Apologies for my ignorance but recently a buddy gave me a set of snow tires/rims he had for his Q50 for my 2012 Maxima.

I was wondering whether it’ll fit... it would solve a lot of issues having to buy snow tires and rims. They read as 225/50R17 98V.

Not sure if they’ll fit but i believe stock for maxima are 245/45R18 96V.

Can someone please confirm? Or do I need to sell these and buy a new set?

You, sir, made my day! Thank you!

Maybe so, so thank you, but you sir, have a hell of a friend! Those look sweet! Get them balanced while they're still off if you can. Then take them home and swap em out.

errr balanced? Kk I’ll look into that. Looking to replace the snow tires on these bad boys with all seasons so I can roll with these rims in the summer!

Thanks!
