Can somebody please tell me if it's possible to bypass the a/c compressor in a 2009 M

I'm new to this group. I posted the same question last night but I don't know how to go back to check for answers. I need HELP.....

maxipower Feb 18, 2021 12:15 PM

why

deb2435 Feb 18, 2021 05:25 PM

The compressor is going out

User1 Feb 18, 2021 07:09 PM

Sure, why wouldn't it be? I'd do it if I didn't need the compressor. Pull up the drive belt routing and have at it. What's the concern?

deb2435 Feb 18, 2021 07:16 PM

I didn't know if I needed the compressor while it is cold. I can get a compressor then. Do you know what size belt I will need to bypass?

User1 Feb 18, 2021 07:18 PM

Nope. No clue.

deb2435 Feb 18, 2021 07:20 PM

Thank you.

maxipower Feb 19, 2021 03:10 PM

leave it alone ... it isn t harming anything and wait till warmer weather comes then replace the compressor ,,it will be costly to bypass now and do it over at a later time ,,

deb2435 Feb 19, 2021 03:45 PM

It is sounding like metal rubbing metal. What should I do??

User1 Feb 19, 2021 04:09 PM

Fix it.

deb2435 Feb 19, 2021 04:24 PM

So, (bypassing it until I can fix it) is a bad idea??

User1 Feb 19, 2021 04:33 PM

Nope, it's a good idea. Eventually the "metal on metal" pulley will seize and there goes your entire accessory system. Apparently maxipower has never experienced this. Not sure where he's coming from with "costly", either. Get under the car, pull the old belt, run a string or something along the belt path you want, then hit up Amazon for a 6 groove poly-v belt with that length and off you go.

deb2435 Feb 19, 2021 04:35 PM

Awesome. Thank you. I was hoping to get good news. LOL

User1 Feb 19, 2021 04:42 PM

Last post, I'm finished with you!

Follow my red routing path.

Don't worry about him. He gets grouchy sometimes when he doesn't have his Snickers bar.

deb2435 Feb 19, 2021 05:21 PM

LOL. I Certainly don't want to make enemies here. I need all the wisdom I can get. My son has been fixing this Maxima for months.

User1 Feb 19, 2021 06:07 PM

I was totally joking!

deb2435 Feb 19, 2021 06:13 PM

Ok Senior Member. Good to know my friend. Thank you kindly. And I like joking as well, I just thought I had crossed a line. LMBO.

Probably not the compressor but the clutch. When it fails it sometimes makes a grinding sound. If it is not making the noise when the AC or defroster is off then just unplugging the AC clutch would keep it from engaging therefore not making any noise. The heater would still work but the windshield would fog up quicker because the AC compressor is not working. Clutches are not expensive and not that hard to change although a puller is needed. More troubleshooting is needed before you change the compressor as that is an expensive repair.

FYI, I had the same issue on my wifes 2011 Murano when the clutch failed at 100,000 miles.

Thank you. I will pass this information to my son. I really appreciate y'all.

maxipower Feb 20, 2021 06:15 PM

you did not say it was making a grinding metal sound ,,and i would ve informed you to disable the clutch plug but the heating system will be different with the windows fogging up on rainy days

deb2435 Feb 21, 2021 07:55 AM

Thanks Maxipower. I didn't know at that time. Sorry. I still appreciate you.

Snatchblock Feb 24, 2021 12:31 PM

Did you find the right size belt? Looking at doing the same thing with a locked up unit. Thank You

deb2435 Feb 25, 2021 09:09 AM

He hasn't done anything yet. That's why I haven't been back. I will update when & if he repairs it.
Sorry my friend.

maxipower Feb 26, 2021 05:55 AM

don t go crazy over it ... spring is soon to come ,,then summer,,your best bet is do it the right way and replace that compressor ,,then your problems will be solved,,it may be costly but better to drive cool than sweating
