Coolant reservoir is bubbling and smoking.

I have a 2012 maxima S. I noticed my coolant reservoir has been bubbling a few days ago but haven’t thought anything about it. I took her on the freeway for a few hours and on the way back I noticed my temp gauge was almost at H. I didn’t get no warning or anything about my engine being overheated but I noticed my window being foggy. I pulled over. I popped the hood and passenger side of motor (coolant, Power steering, tubes, etc) was super hot to touch. My coolant was bubbling so bad! It looked like it was boiling! It was smoking too! It came from the left side of the coolant tank but it didn’t smell like coolant. It was white smoke. and I waited until my engine was cool enough so I opened the coolant cap and I saw that it was almost empty! I went to buy coolant on a separate car and added the coolant. The temp gauge went back to the middle and I took her back home. On the way back the temp gauge then proceeded to go back up to H but would go back to the middle and up to H and down too. I checked the engine when I got home and it was boiling and smoking too. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? You guys think it’s safe enough to drive to a mechanic to check it out? There’s no smoke coming from the exhaust or the engine. It’s only from the left side of coolant reservoir. I could use some advice or suggestions. I got her recently and I’m in love with her! I hate that it’s happening to her .. please help!

Help?

Have you checked the reservoir for cracks small problem, big problem you overheated the engine and now have head gasket issues

Take it to a shop with a exhaust sniffer for testing emissions and have the tech put it in the coolant bottle. If it reads anything you will need to do head gaskets at minimum. Sorry.

Make sure you use the Blue colored fluid specifically for Nissan cars first of all......you either have a small leak some where most likely the radiator or A hose maybe or are just low in fluid......but if you just bought the car maybe they sold it to you for that reason who knows. Best case scenario maybe it just has air in the system from running too low and needs a good burping......fill it all the way up the in the radiator and tighten the cap up and to where it says max in the reservoir.... then lift the car up in the front only.....A curb can make it easier if you don't have ramps ....turn heat all the way up inside the car and after turning car on and keep an eye on the temp inside......do this for like 15 minutes while watching the gauge and making sure the reservoir is a Max when warm.

Try bleeding your coolant system.
