CVT Fluid Possibly Not Changed Since 2019, Change or Don't Change Fluid?
Hi All,
I bought a 2012 Nissan Maxima S, in Feb. Since then, learning about CVT(this is my first), everyone is saying keep up with the fluid changes. The car works, no issues shifting or anything. The carfax shows the transmission was "serviced" in 2019. I'm assuming serviced means fluid change (I'm calling the old place tomorrow to see if they have records). One mechanic said their might be metal shavings in the fluid that might be lost if I do the change, is there anyway to like test for that or? I'm kinda strapped for cash so this car was to replace my daily driver to work, if I don't maintain this car. I'm screwed. Question is, assuming the fluid was changed in 2019, should I change it now? I don't want later any issues and I regret not changing it. I'm in PA so I'm also worried about winter coming. |
What was the milage at the 2019 service and what is the present day milage? CVT fluid changes are based on mileage which is every 60,000 miles per owner's manual.

112,693 mi was the mileage in 2019, and its at 160,873 as of today Oct 2024

My transmission died at 66k and the Nissan dealership put “transmission serviced “ on my carfax report. I do a drain and refill of cvt fluid every 50k. I’m at 206k now and no problems !
