Most reliable Maxima's

2003 (5th gen) Maxima with 268K. Repairs:
Valve cover gasket
Front bearings replaced - 1 bad
Rear bearings replaced - 1 bad
Radiator Replaced - Bad
Plugs replaced - Preventative
All coils replaced - Preventative, while I was there I might as well replace then (Hitachi)
Fuel injectors - One was bad. Figured I should replace all of the injectors while I was there.
Alternator - bad
Power steering return hose - leaking
Rear struts.
Radio / head unit - easier to replace than I thought. My daughter LOVES the new ATOTO Head unit!

For 268K / 23 year old car I think this is quite good. I bought my early 2003 used in 2004. I used it to drive my new born daughter home from the hospital. It is her car now. It sat for 3 years after I was done with it before she was old enough to drive (Sitting stationary and ignored is hard on a car).

I had kind of wished I waited for the 6th gen after they came out. I loved the idea of the CVT! Reading through this forum I am MUCH better off with my 2003 than if I had bought an early CVT.

I’ve had several Maximas over the years, but I must say I love my current 07 SL that I have owned for nearly 3 years. So far I’ve replaced the rear wheel bearings, alternator, battery, front struts, both camshaft sensors, CVT trans filter plus 4 drain and fills on the CVT fluid. I have brand new control arms in the trunk, those are going on Thursday. Also just installed a Cold air intake. Also replaced the radiator. The throttle is more responsive with cold air intake and the motor is a little louder aswell, but I cant say if it picked up a noticeable amount of power as I haven’t been WOT in awhile due to me needing to replace my control arms.

And actually, the early CVTS in the 6.5th gen Maximas are more reliable than the ones in the 7th gen Maximas, I have 160k miles on mines so far. Its mostly the CVTs in the 4 cylinder cars that fail more often
