The 8th generation Maxima...prototypes, news, updates, rumors and more
EDIT 6/8/2017 Jump to post #1120 for news and rumors pertaining to the 2018 Maxima. :D
Hey guy's I found this video on youtube its a rebadged Infiniti M called the Nissan Cima. It looks nice i'm wondering if this could be the Next Generation of Maxima. With the Infiniti Q50 just released most of us are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next Maxima. Of course this post is going to bring alot of mixed feedback so lets all respect each other's opinions. http://car.wallpaperskd.com/wp-conte...-Hybrid-04.jpg |
I think I'd rather get a G series over that.
|
What?? Why would a current model car, be rebadged to a different NEW model car?

cima is a japan model only!!
in america it was the Q45!! late 80s till now!!

Japanese Nissan Cima
Manufacturer Nissan Also called Infiniti Q45 (1996-2006) Production 1988-2010 2012-present Class Full-size luxury car Body style 4-door "B" pillar hardtop 4-door sedan The Nissan Cima is a large luxury sedan produced by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. for the Japanese market. The car's name is derived from Spanish for "summit". The hood ornament uses an image of an acanthus leaf. The acanthus leaf was commonly used by classical Greeks to make a wreath for use as a crown. The Cima has traditionally been Nissan's rival to the Toyota Crown Majesta. The Cima in the first two generations was a more luxurious and larger version of the Cedric and Gloria, with the Cima sharing the V8 engine from the President. Later generations of the Cima shared the same platform as the President, with the Cima being a shorter version; these iterations of the Cima were exported to the United States as the Infiniti Q45. The Q45 was discontinued after 2006, however the Cima and the President continued in production until August 2010, leaving the Nissan Fuga to become the lone flagship sedan. The Nissan Cima was introduced in 1988 and was based on an elongated Cedric/Gloria chassis. With its phenomenal sales—about 64,000 units sold the first year and 120,000 in four years—the car became a symbol of the "bubble economy". To date the Nissan Cima has sold over 278,000 units. |
I'm just tired of everybody copying everybody. That ish looks like a G37 Sedan and it's hybrid. I will never buy another nissan as long as they making this Hybrid tiptronic, padel shift crap :mrgone:
Unless I win the lottery and I can afford a GT-R with a Switzer package  |
Nissan just needs to discontinue the Maxima all together. The used market is flooded with cars that are called "Maxima" yet have absolutely nothing in common with its roots.

In North America it was obvious, they always had three models, Sentra, Altima, and Maxima. Maxima hung close to the $20K price, but eventually they stopped trying to keep it there. They introduced the Versa, and the whole line shifted. Now Versa is where the Sentra used to be, Sentra took the Maximas place, Altima I have never understood, and Maxima shifted up to become more luxury orientated along with its higher price tag. |

It's the V6 Altima which took the Maxima's place. And, by the way, is it me or are Japanese cars starting to get really good looking? The Camry looks cool. The Altima looks so good now that it makes me wonder if there is even going to be another Maxima:bawling: The new Sentra is exactly a new Altima jr and still looks good too. The new Accord is sexy and sporty. I never thought I'd see that day. The new Lexus ES is helluva sexy. Is it something in the water over there now? Perhaps its the stiff competition from Korea that's got them stepping up their game. Of course there are still the misses, like the new Acura TL and honda accord crosstour. Holy cow wtf. |

Agree about most Japanese cars looking pretty good (though I think the OP "Cima" is pretty ugly) these days. Not just Korea, but American cars have had a bit of a resurgence too, on top of the fact that Toyota got their sales knocked around a lot by the random acceleration business. I think when Japan was at the top of their game before, and people were just buying Japanese because they had such a great rep compared to anyone else they started to get complacent. It is true what they say that competition drives innovation, and without it companies will stagnate. |
They are already high priced but at some point Nissan needs awd.

One thing is for certain, the Maxima has always been the flagship sedan, but with the lastest 7th generation Nissan made a big mistake by decreasing the dimensions of the current generation. That was a big flaw because you give the Altima the advantage of being the better car for the money with extra space . So because Nissan took the Maxima and made it a size smaller alot of consumers are gonna look to the Altima and other cars for more space and ammenities while the Maxima is just left for a performance advantage. The Maxima's only advantage is its power, handling and other little things. Back in 2002 guys remember when the Altima grew bigger than the Maxima, then all of a sudden 2004 rolls around and the Maxima grew in size but lost its sport image. Nissan has to balance this all out with the new car when it makes it debute in 2014/2015 or alot of us are still gonna be upset.

I think the 7th gens are really nice and they did a good job with it. It's a classy car, luxury and aggressive at the same time, you can't please everyone, but as usual they will have to step up their game for the 8th gen. Seemingly Nissan always wants to have a model that is referred to as the "mini-max"(Altima).
|
dwapenyi Make it larger than the Altima and enough to be competitive but not too much bigger and too much smaller.
maxgtr2000 7th generation is very nice but for some reason with this generation the Maxima something seems to be missing. The next Maxima definetly has to be stronger. Most People say RWD,3.7V6 300-310HP,slightly larger, thats the common thing I hear. Personally being a 6th generation owner if I were to upgrade to the current generation my only issue is the space, and bring back the power folding mirrors.I'd like to see that in the 2015 car. |
They should just kill off the maxima already. Altima sells better and has everything a maxima has.
|
As long as it has the CVT and does not have a 6MT I am not interested. I would rather have a used G sedan with 6MT than a Maxima with CVT. I realize I am probably not their target market though.
|
That's a valid point too The whole CVT thing will cause apples to be thrown around here. The CVT has not sat well with alot of Maxima fans let alone Nissan owners, it has alot to do with where the Maxima stands today. I personally don't have a problem with it.

I stopped when I saw hybrid

The vast majority of vehicles on the market have little to no roots to their elders, other than the name it carries. It's just the way the car market is.
Course the only Maxima I really even care about is the 3rd gen. I'm just tired of all these different models diluting what was once a special car. Now it's just your run of the mill car, designed by noobs who went a little overboard with the modeling clay, creating wacky body styles that serve no legitimate purpose. |
The new Infiniti Q looks like the current generation Maxima.

IMO... Everything right is pretty much speculative. Before buying my '13, I searched online and couldn't find any real information on the next Maxima, nor any possible spy shots. I asked the dealer when we were doing the paperwork and they said they had no information at this time.
|
That front grill looks really prominent, such as with the new BMW models. I hate it IMHO, I hope the true 4 door sports car would makes its new debut soon before everybody starts to :banghead:

T200 How did you take that pic of your Maxima like that against the city background that's gorgeous as well as the car? Yeah see I always was under the impression that the current G37 2007-2012 was on the same platform as the current 7th generation Max.

Bring back the R34 and call it the maxima ,AWD and everyone will be ;-)
|
I'll take the 2013 V6 Altima with a 6MT before I ever consider buying into one of Nissan's craptastic CVTs...
I love the Maxima, and the car has a lot of heritage for being an "affordable" sporty sedan...but it's time for it to go. If Nissan tries to go bigger and better, the 8th gen Maxima's price tag will be in range with a lot of Infiniti models. Why buy a "Nissan" when you can have an "Infiniti?" At least, that's most Americans' mindsets. |

Yeah, Altima only comes in cvt now. There is a slim market for a manual these days, too many people don't know how to drive them anymore. CVT gets better gas mileage and theoretically should perform better than a traditional automatic or manual, minus the drivetrain loss, same reason a GTR doesn't have a manual option, you can't get better performance out of a manual.
With Nissan now announcing the hybrid platform in the Pathfinder I think that's what may be in store for the next generation Maxima. They are running a supercharged 2.5 in the pathfinder in this next model year (later this summer) with a hybrid that is putting down 250hp and getting 26mpg combined (25city/27hwy). All the sources I'm seeing are saying a good portion of the lineup is going to be hybrids, and it seems the newly designed Rogue will be next. We will see what happens, but I would be very surprised to see anything but a CVT FWD Maxima, they need more toys than the Altima to justify the $10k more pricetag though since the Altima is very well optioned in SL trim with all the tech package stuff, and I would assume it will see a few upgrades in the next year or two to stay competitive in its own segment. Being in sales at Nissan the new Altima is hurting Maxima sales because there just isn't enough to justify $10k more (top of the line on each) for a pano sunroof, 20 more hp, a rear sunshade, and a cooled driver seat. The Altima is already quicker than the Maxima as well. The Altima's seats are more comfortable and has more room. |
At least the GTR has conventional forward gears, and not a CVT. And I'll gladly take my 12.5 MPG's in my Pathfinder.
But then again, we as a community represent a very small share of the market, so it's understandable. |
The Maxima name died after the 5.5gen.
I doubt the 8th gen will be back on track with its roots. |
Nissan is being extremely hush-hush about the Maxima. I haven't even come across any spy photos of any potential 8th gens. If they're being this secretive about it, they must have big plans for the Maxima, or else they'll announce its discontinuation soon, however I don't see Nissan doing that. As far as their cars go, how many names have been discontinued since Datsun switched over to Nissan? Pulsar, Stanza, 200SX and the 240? Those were lower to mid level cars, the Maxima isn't. There might be more, but I can't think of any right off hand.
