2018 Nissan Maxima Rental Review – Lowered Expectations

What an incredibly negative article. Don't agree with this guy one bit.

Besides his opinions, some of his facts are wrong

I agree with some of the tripe he commented on and, yes, he did get a few facts wrong, but the article was so lame as to be innocuous. Sounds like this came from a guy with a deadline to meet, grudge to voice, and little experience with his subject. Opinions are like butt-holes.........................

His negativity from the beginning of his article left me expecting pretty much what he said throughout the rest of the article. I could test every vehicle on the market and come up with dozens of little details that I think could be improved on every one of them. But that does not mean any particular car is not a good, comfortable, worthy ride. There were many valid criticisms in that review, but the overall negativity sort of undermined the validity of his review.

In my humble opinion, a person that does not understand and appreciate that our automotive future IS the economical and fuel-efficient CVT should never be allowed to write a review of a CVT-equipped vehicle. He will hate everything from the placement of cupholders to the dead insect stuck to the windshield.

I see no purpose in my refuting his negativity item by item. It is a little bothersome that quite a few of his complaints would not have been true had he tested a Platinum. But he was paid to write an article and he wrote it. True Maxima fans know well that the Maxima can be a really fun car to drive. I love the styling, the usable power, the fuel efficiency and the reliability I always seem to get with my Maximas. And my opinions are based on real-world experience, not magazine articles or a week in a rental.

lightonthehill, always appreciate not only your calm, balanced, thought-through perspectives, but your unwavering loyalty to and staunch defense of the Maxima.

It wasn't a super flattering review, but on the upside he did compare it favorably to older Maximas, which he didn't like either. Guess it's just not his style. I wholeheartedly disagree with his critique of the interior, I think the Max interior is amoung the best I've ever seen

sschumer - Thanks for the kind words. As a relevant disclaimer, I must admit that 34 years of happy experiences with Maximas have absolutely prejudiced me.

Fishlet - Yes he did seem to favor the newest Maxima over older versions. That is a change from many reviewers who long for the Maximas of bygone days. Especially the manual trannie versions.

That tough review did, in fact, mention more than a dozen things he thought were OK or even good with the 8th gen Maxima, but they were easy to overlook amongst the bullet holes he left on the battlefield.
