8th Gen Max SR vs BMW 340i Track Comparison

You may have read this before. I have not and I thought I had read everything there is to know about the 8th Gen Max! A track performance test (compliments of Automobile Magazine, NOT NISSAN this time) between the Nissan-badged 8th Gen Max "sports car" and what some believe is a "true" sports car, the 340i. The pro drivers (including the famous Andy Pilgrim of Corvette Racing fame) told it like it was; no holds barred. The drivers were tough on the Max but just as tough on the Bimmer. If you are a Maxima driver you will just love the conclusion of the track tests! If you are a 340i lover you will be sorely disappointed. Made me smile.

I still don't see this car being a 4DSC.

and neither do I Fatties. Thing is I'll bet the "commoner" has no idea what a sports car is anyway. "Wow, look at that small, slinky, speedy, 2-seater convertible with the luggage rack on the back", is probably what most think a sports car is... no matter the power. steering input feel, and "actual" cornering and breaking ability. As for the luggage rack, well, I'm dating myself.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and the term "sports car" is then meaningless and has no real impact on a buyer's decision to purchase. Heck, if Nissan had called the Maxima a "Luxspeed" I would have still bought her based on what I wanted in a car and the visceral input and mental processing my pea-brain was coping with at the time as I dipped into my pocket. I have never referred to my Max as a sports car. It is what it is.

4DSC is just a Nissan’s marketing shenanigans.

If it was true 4DSC it would have been 350+ hp, turbocharged, rear wheel drive or all wheel drive with optional manual transmission.

i mean Kia stinger and Genesis G70 put all 4DSCs wanna be to shame. Blah!

So 340 HP is a no go too? How about 349?

Only on weekends and holidays does 349 count

True Dat,

But I still like my Max for what it is. And I like that I didn't pay 50k

Thanks for sharing, interesting comparison. No doubt the SR feels planted and corners very flat.

340 is way to ****in slow

HP alone doesn't define a sports car. I don't think the 8th gen is a 4dsc, but it's pretty nimble and handles well, the cvt alone is ruining the whole 4dsc thing.

You get a lot for the price in the Maxima SR. It preforms how I expect it to and looks beautiful , especially in the Midnight Trim.

It would be great if we could get something in some form of a rule of 4's . 4wd, 400hp, 4 sec 0-60, 40 mpg , and 40k price. Yes, that's a pipe dream, but for now the Maxima will do.

Q50 Red Sport comes close, expect on price. I suppose a used one could be had for 40K or less, though.
