Tire warning on startup...

I set my warnings for tire rotation and oil change there at 5000 k. The Nissan warning sytem is not smart as it does not evaluate the oil condition. It is just a mileage counter with a flag to the message center. They should emulate the Honda Acura system which does

Below are links to the Honda and the Chevrolet oil maintenance minder systems. They do not use an oil analyzers to determine the condition of the oil but use an algorithm based on how the vehicle is driven. Honda does not recommend the use of synthetic oil as the system is programmed to conventional oil.
I'm old school so I change the oil at 5000 mile intervals. Just something else not to worry about and it is easy to do.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I implore you to turn to page 2-16, Instruments and Controls of the Nissan Maxima Owners Manual.
Take the time to read and familiarize with the many features of your car. Page 2-25 has this to say:
Tire
This indicator appears when the customer set distance is reached for replacing tires. You can set or reset the distance for replacing tires.
This message has nothing to do with tire pressure, and yes, the 2016 Maxima has that feature.

Yes, and, as several others here said, it can also be set to display at a mileage prechosen for tire rotation, which many dealer service techs and tire shop techs set after doing a tire rotation.
As RickSmith (and a few others here) tell us, there are many wondrous little things hidden in the Driver's Manual. It is sort of dry reading (and sometimes not very clear), but a lot of things are in there. I try to approach the Driver's Manual like I would a course textbook in college; something I need to learn, whether I like it or not, because I will be 'tested' on the contents as I drive the car and things/questions keep popping up.
One good aspect of taking the trouble to learn little things about our Maximas is that many things we learn will also apply to the next generation Maxima. And the generation after that. And so on.
That concludes today's lesson, and class is dismissed. Meet you at the pizza parlor in half an hour. Customers driving Maximas get a free slice. With extra pepperoni.

i've been a member of many different boards over the last 20 years and everybody says that same thing...until of course everybody is gone and there are no questions to answer at all

Having owned new cars every three years since I was nineteen, I've never read the manual.
Except for my Nissan GT-R and BMW M5.

Mushrooms and anchovies, if you like. The intent here is to be able to see how other folks have modded their Maximas. Just today, my son suggested my silver Platinum would look extra sharp if I covered the silver portion of the roof that shows on each side just above the doors with black vinyl. I may not do that, but he has me thinking about it.
