Your comprehensive insurance deductible. At least mine does.

If not done under insurance, the price I have paid for a new windshield on previous Maximas was usually around $550.

I was trying to figure out "what if I don't use insurance".
... and this is why insurance is higher in Mass.

I think there are probably more reasons than a no deductible windshield But, you might be a little wary of cheap replacement windshield.

I don't know if all the Gen 8 windshields are in the same category, but ours is part of the Bose radio system and is tuned to the speakers somehow. It might be worthwhile to look into this before replacing with a cheap windshield.

I had too a month after I purchased mine. Cost me $172.00 in Raleigh, NC. A month a later had to have it repaired due to a "rock" that was $55. But that's in Raleigh,NC.

Apparently the State of GA does not require insurance companies to waiver customer deductibles for windshield replacement.

Therefore, your replacement will be the amount of your deductible or the amount of the windshield replacement whichever is less.

if you’re referring to “acoustic glass”, that is for road noise reduction. Not for Bose audio frequency (enhancement).

Thanks for the correction. We were told it was for the speakers.

car dealership staff are not the brightest nor most truthful people.

Yes, I’m generalizing. But after looking for a new car the past month, nothing has changed.

Follow-up --> used Safelite - they did a BRILLIANT job.
Went from a chip and crack to a small smudge. I've never seen this turn out so well.
Weather-wise, it was about 72 degrees and humid (rained later in the day) so this might have helped it (not too hot, not too cold).
But saved me $500+ for a new pane of glass.

I have used Safelite in the past and they have always done excellent work. Will not use anyone else.

Does the glass manufacturer matter? I've seen post with people complaining about non-oem glass not being made as good.

I have two windshields replaced in the last 5 years. The windshield on my Murano was replaced with an aftermarket windshield and it was not nearly as nice an the original one. There was some distortion in the view. When I had the windshield replaced on my 7th generation Maxima I insisted on a Nissan windshield and it was as good as the original. Your insurance company may have an upcharge for not using an aftermarket windshield but it is worth it.

I've had poor experience (including fit, distortion, and color) with aftermarket.
On my prior German cars (requiring a special coating for heads-up display), there are no aftermarket options.
For the Maxima, aftermarket carries a risk of poor fitment for the rain (auto wiper) sensor.
So.. if I *did* have to replace my windshield (thankfully I don't), I would have gone to the dealer and procured Nissan glass.

$240, Safelite, south Louisiana, not an insurance claim (paid for it out of pocket). Watch for them re-filling the Rain Sensor with the proper seal, sticking back on the Windshield properly and placing the plastic cover that fits over it without screwing the locking tabs up.
