LED Headlight - Follow Up

Hey all,

I wanted to follow-up on my first post on the forums. My first post was in regards to the new headlights on the refreshed model fitting on the 2016-2018 Maxima, and I reached out to consumer affairs at Nissan. It seems that the new headlight won't fit the previous models, so no luck on getting them on my 2017 SL.

I still wanted LEDs, so I started looking into getting some of the LED plug-in bulbs. Finding some actual reviews of plug-in play bulbs is...difficult to say the least, so I want to help out anyone that's in a similar situation. I looked on a lot of forums, and I narrowed it down and ended up getting the Diode Dyanmics SL1 bulbs. The only reason I ended up getting those bulbs is because it seemed that those bulbs had the most positive reviews, but there are many others and I'd love to see any pics from anyone using different bulbs.

We'll actually see how these bulbs hold up, but I added pictures to help show how they look on car. Just as a note, I'm using a phone camera, and I tried my best with these but the pics don't do these headlights justice but I knew how important pics were when I was looking for any actual review.

This is my first time reviewing anything so I'm going to make this short and sweet:
  • Am I happy with these? Yes
  • Do they look like the factory LED lights from Nissan? Nope
  • Is that a bad thing? Nope, I always felt that the factory LED lights had a bluish hue depending on different angles you look at them. That's also not a bad thing, these lights just look different than the factory ones. **Side-note** The first pic I attached is BY FAR the best one to seeing how these actually look. The others look blue but thats just because of the phone camera.
I'll do a follow up in a few months so you guys can know how these hold up. A lot of reviews on these plug-in play style headlights say that some of these go bad overtime.

Also, I'm still considering the all black grille from the 2018 SR midnight. I would still need to see it in person before really considering putting that on. I'm thinking the grille and these Vossen HF-1 wheels would be perfect:
**Probably wont get new wheels anytime soon though, just put Michelin Pilot Sport 3+ on my car**

Hope this helps anyone that was in a similar position when looking for a LED option for your Maxima!

I installed Lasfit H11 72W with Phillips Flip Chip(whatever that means :p)

Yours look great! How long have you had those bulbs? I was (and still kinda am) skeptical of how long these will hold up in a year or 2 but I'm optimistic

NisCal17 01-25-2019 06:17 AM

I’ve had some other brands installed before these. I got Lastfits probably last year in April or so. I put them on low beam and old ones to High beams. Now I’ve got full LED lighting.

LEDs are very sturdy. They will last much longer than halogens.

I have LED lights as well no problems here just the complaint that I cannot match exactly the color hue .....with the center lights, I am running 6k low beams and I added 3k to the fog lights for that japanese look.

Dumb question, are the Lasfit H11 72W brighter than the OEM halogens?

I recently got a 2018 SV and the halogens are not bright enough for me.

Good question, I went with HIDs (5500k). The color is nearly identical to the running lights. They are definitely brighter and a wider beam pattern.

proexpert 02-09-2019 12:28 PM

How hard is the installation?

lindros2 02-09-2019 01:46 PM

For folks with 2016-18 cars who are giddy about the 2019 headlights and fog lights, I would stick with this conversion.
The 2019 lights (quality-wise) SUCK. I have a dark line (not a cutoff, but an actual line) in my headlight pattern.

Projector will have a nice and clean cut off 16-18. I guess since the 19 uses reflectors now. The light is scattered?

It's an oddball Acura (and now Honda Accord/Civic/Odyssey) ripoff design.

Of course LEDs a brighter. Those stock halogen are really bad.

Are those really reflectors? I thought they said they comes standard with LED or they have designed LED bulbs for reflectors?

These are LED's.

It's just smaller ones instead of a single bulb - I think seven total; four low-beam and three high-beam.

For my 2018, I'm looking at LED replacement bulbs. Options are 5000, 7000, or 9000 lumens. I want bright, but want to stay legal. Any thoughts as to the brightness and/or legality of the 9000 lumens bulbs for low beams?

9000k talk about candle sticks lol. You would definetly get popped for those by the popo. 5000k imo is perfect.

Not 9,000K. K=color temp. 9,000L (lumen=light output). Definitely a high-output LED set. Even if high L, can't those assemblies be adjusted to OEM spec. like the halogens or HID? Educate me please.

I don't know. These bulbs come with "drivers" but they are not listed as "adjustable".

I miss read the post and got them confused.

Not the best video on Gen 8 headlight assy. aiming, but well-intended by the author and appreciated by me. You might want to give this a try if your LED's are blinding people. I have noticed that most approaching cars at night, that have LED's, seem to be very blinding (worse than non-LED high beams even). Wonder if they are aimed to comply with Dept of Trans. standards.

proexpert 02-12-2019 01:46 AM

I thought you meant adjusted as in the brightness. Now I realize you meant adjusted to aim them properly. Thanks now I get it.

Lumens are bull crap. Most of them don’t even meet advertising. Look at output. More wattage more brightness. Most of them come with 25-30 watts. Look at something that will be more than 60 watts combined. I have 72W 36 per bulb and they a bright. I wanted to go with 50W per bulb but I don’t think Maxima battery can handle it because even at 72W when my car starts headlights get dim while car cranks.

I believe what you say (I am from lighting industry). Your statement "because even at 72W when my car starts headlights get dim while car cranks" may be fooling you into staying with lesser watts because most cars I've had, including my '17 Max dim the headlights when cranking, so all that battey power is concentrated into the starter.

Yeah, I knew that. But in any case I replaced Halogens a few days after I bought the car with 30W bulbs and I didn’t noticed that dim. So I couldn’t remember what halogens did but after replacing 30W bulbs with 36W it started to do that and I know that most of the power going to the started and that’s why you get slight power loss in headlights.

watch this video. It will clarify any misconception you may have about light output vs color vs wattage

I'm ready to purchase LED bulbs for my 2018 SV. I can't install them, I'm physically unable. Who would you use to install them if you couldn't do it yourself?
Nissan dealer? Pep Boys or similar? Private garage? It's a brand new car and I don't want it damaged in any way if at all possible.

Forget Nissan( unless it factory replacement) or Pep they won’t do it. Don’t you have a teenager around ? It’s an easy job.. watch it on YouTube that way you can guide someone. There’s nothing to damage.

Handy person who’s familiar with similar car can get it done in less than 30 minutes.
