Brockster, can totally relate. My '05 Maxima has 180,000 miles on it and after 13 years was still going strong. But had been eyeing the 8th generation Maxima for last few years, finally bought an '18 a couple of months ago. Couldn't say goodbye to my '05, so now have both. Congratulations on your new Max, best of luck with it!

You didn't say what year and Maxima model you are getting though if you liked the earlier Max you should love the newest interations. From my point of view, there are much more electronic complexities in supporting the safety and other NAV equipment, so you might consider a dealer supported warranty extension if the car is used. Brockster - I know how you feel. When I let my 1985 Maxima go with 206K miles on it, I assumed it would probably go to the junk heap. But, surprisingly enough, I glimpsed that baby around town every week or two for another six months. Every time I saw it, I sort of choked up. I felt like a parent that had sold their child. That 1985 Maxima is still my favorite all-time car. Not the best. Not the most reliable. Not the fastest or best-equipped, etc, etc. But I was totally in love with that car. I still think of it quite often.

I have owned every generation Maxima since that 2nd gen 1985, and every time I trade one in, I sort of feel choked up. I worry that the next owner will not baby my car like I do. I always add protective molding to my cars, so my wife and I can readily identify them if we see them again. Since we are out and about town every day, we sometimes do.

Dealers are not supposed to reveal the name of the person who buys a car after we trade it in. But I am very close with the service manager at my dealer, and she lets me know when persons who bought the cars I have traded in are taking good care of my old cars. Back in the fall, She even pointed to my old 2009 Premium getting an oil change on a rack in her service department. Just two lifts down from where my 2016 was having an oil change. That 2009 gave me absolutely ZERO trouble in the seven years I owned it.


Enough nostalgia. Brockster - keep us informed as to how your 2018 is doing.

lightonthehill, that's a great read. I appreciate your sharing how you feel about your former Maximas. Per my previous post above, I feel the exact same way. I'm guessing many here can relate.

I had 2017 Maxima S. Dude hit me, and sure nuff, with my luck he had no insurance. I had to pay my deductible and after looking around, i stuck with the Maxima Line, this time i got the SL. The Maxima is an amazing car for the money....Im glad i got the SL model, as it has so much more tech in it, not to mention leather seats rather than cloth, which is important when you have a clumsy 4 year old who dirties up the backseat quite a bit.
