Winter tire brand feedback
 

Hi guys. Anyone driving their 8th gen in heavier snow conditions and having decent performance? I have a 2017 Platinum with 225 55R17 Blizzak WS80's on winter rims bought new last year and the snow performance has been brutal. I'm in normal mode going very easy on the gas and I'm slipping and sliding everywhere. Doesn't seem to matter if the snow if light or heavy or packed or loose, pulling away from stops and cornering is a constant adventure.

I've driven 30 years in the snow and have had Sentras Altimas and Muranos with Bridgestone winters and all have been fine. I'm not sure if the Maxima is just a poorer snow performer of if the Blizzaks are just a bad match for this car. I have 2 years left on lease and will consider swapping them if I know there's something better out there.

Anyone using Michelin X-Ice's and liking them? Anyone using Blizzaks with any feedback? Thanks.

I have a 2000max with Pirelli cinturato all season. They rock in the snow. Bought them online. $400-450.

I bought Michelin X-ice X-i3's. Very pleased with them. Tire guy recommended them over the Blizzaks even though they were less money.

Not sure what to tell you. Consumer Reports rated the WS80 only slightly behind the Xi3, and better than the Xi3 in snow and traction handling.

Yeah I know. I've never had issues with them with my other models. I'm just at the point where I'm wondering if they aren't a good match for the Max or if the Max is just generally poorer in slippery conditions than I'm used to. That's why I was curious to hear from folks that have reasonable success in snow.

Actually, I really like my Nittos, but I wasn't going to mention them since they don't make them in my size anymore.

Just got home after a testy ride home in snow, sleet and freezing rain. Although I was pleased with the way the car handled, there were a few white knuckle moments. I have the Michelin X-ice X-i3's. As long as I was gentle on the gas, and didn't make any erratic moves, the car was fine. But I must say, I was on I-95 north of Boston in 3" of snow, and I was only comfortable doing 35mph. There were numerous cars spun out in the median. There were times that I just took the foot off the gas as I felt the car losing traction. As far as going up hill from a standing start things were okay. Braking was fine. Final summation...I don't think the Max is the best in snow, but if you drive in a reasonable fashion, it will get you there. Just avoid the fools that are clueless.
