It says "Ma-ki-tsu-ma" in katakana (one of two Japanese phonetic scripts).
If you've been, Japanese cars - even in Japan - have Roman lettering. This isn't China, where cars also must have the joint venture badge.
Below is an (old) Toyota Century. Only the license tag is in Japanese (Hiragana).
