2017 Suddenly won't start
 

2017 Maxima with about 35,000 miles. Never had any problems (although it has the faulty Bluetooth radio and they've always refused to repair), regular service, no warning lights recently, although it just recently reminded me that I'm due for service.

Drove it to work fine today. Battery seems fine, can turn on headlights, A/C, radio, move seat back and forth, etc. Keyfob seems fine, can lock and unlock even at distance. Put new batteries in the fob anyway.

Problem is it won't start. It sounds like it tries half a crank, like I hear a crank noise and not a click, but only for a split second, and then the whole electrical system instantly shuts off.

If I keep trying, sometimes I can get the speedometer and fuel gauge to oscillate rapidly for a second, and get a few clicks, but I never get more than half a crank and never turns over.

​​​​​​Any ideas? Will a jump off any kind maybe help? Or am I getting a tow?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Jump-start it from another running car and drive to the nearest auto shop and buy a new battery. It's dead.

Going to try jumping it here in just a minute. I convinced myself it couldn't be that simple but maybe it is.

OE batteries don't last forever, have you changed it yet, or is it still the OE battery?

OE. It's been really hot lately and I know that ages them. I'm just not used to everything working fine (lights, AC, etc) but it can't start.

I got a jump and drove to the dealer and left it with them.

Do you not have the skills or the basic tools to change the battery yourself? If not, places like Autozone, Pepboys etc will often help and install the battery for you, free of charge.
The Dealer is the last place I would go for something simple like changing a battery.

It's due for service and I've got a good relationship with this dealer going back 20+ years and four cars. I'm cool. Thank you.

If you change out the battery, be sure to protect the computer memory for current radio settings etc/ The Autozone boys will know what you mean as they have a small battery that hooks up through lighter socket to do this..

No idea why, but I replaced the battery in my 2016 SV last year and did not lose any of my radio presets. Never had that happen before on a modern car, which was weird.

I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and change my battery before this happens to me. No indications of battery problems but with over 50,000 miles on my '17 Platinum I think it's just a matter of time. I would rather do it in my garage than the parking lot of Wal Mart.

On my 2018 I disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes to clean the terminals with no loss of radio presets. And I wasted time prior to that repair writing down the stations; if I could only have those 3 minutes back. :)

My fourth Maxima and I guess my last (sigh). Acura TL maybe next? Anyway, batteries are the only thing that have left me not able to start my car…get a jump go to Advance Auto, they roll out the battery/starter/alternator tester contraption and its always been the battery…remember when batteries were around 100…dropped almost 200 the last time.
