THE BBK PiCTURE THREAD (Show off your BBK setup here)
I know many guys are now running custom BBks. Two of the most common being Ford Mustang Cobra 13" Rotors with Q45/300ZX calipers or Nissan A34 Maxima rotors with 300ZX or stock calipers. This thread i am hoping that we can gather pictures of different setups and impressions. Also please state if your car has ABS or not.

I must admit at first I was not too keen on the cobra rotor BBK but recently it has become much more appealing, seems like its the best bang for the buck giving the most for your dollar. 13" rotors FTW. I will personally be using q calipers because I feel that 4 piston calipers are over kill and probally will not clear my wheels. I am also having Automax_95 redrill my rotors for Maxima wheel stud diameter and bolt pattern. So my cost break down is Q45 rebuilt calipers with new hardware- $200 Jeff92se BBk brackets and Hubcentric Rings- $90 Automax_95 RTP Zinc plated/Slotted Ford Mustang Cobra Rotors- $170 PBR/Axxis MM pads-$45 Brake Bolts-$10 So for basically under $600 i have a 13" bbk with 2 piston calipers that can compare to Stillens $1000 2 piston caliper kit. |
Yup. The 13" rotor w/ the Q or J calipers is a good choice. But polish FTL? You're crazy man. :)
Remember I also have 1" larger rotors in the back :) 3-gens get to upgrade to larger rear rotors very,very easy. I even sold brackets for the 3-gen. But no one really bought them. But for those that did, swore by them. For 4-gen+, you have to go to Matt |
aluminum z32 caliper

The polish was a DIY project. A pain BTW. So it was never show quality. But I sprayed some high temp clear over it. Held up pretty good for the time I had it. I think I had it this way for at least a year?

ahh, clear coat explains it I should have done that on mine, the brake dust is hard to clean off after awhile

It almost seems like the rotors were designed for your application, the caliper sweeps across almost the entire face of the rotor, as opposed to most cobra/Z32 setups where the innermost part of the rotor face goes untouched. The 2pc rotors look great man, what kind are they anyway? |
I think that's because he has a two piece design vs. the other ones that are a solid one-piece

Anyone look at stock rotors? Even stock rotors aren't swept 100%. It just looks that way because the unswept parts eventually rust over

rotors are 2 piece rotors from the 2003 mustang cobra. they are made by baer.
the comment on how the pad touches all of the surface is not because they are a 2 piece rotor. its is because the caliper was modified so that when the pads are installed they would touch all of the surface. |
Yes grinding the cast aluminum caliper for another 1 mm of pad contact.

I'd much rather have 1mm of pad overhang than grind 1-2-3 mm of brake caliper material (1mm for the over hang and 1-2 for clearances).
It's important to me not to sacrafice the strength of the caliper. IMHO.
