Rear shocks making clanking noises!! HELP!
this past weekend I installed new shocks and springs all the way around. I went with Progress springs and GR-2's. I got everything going good, but the backs are making loud noises on the smallest of bumps. It's almost like something is loose or something. It kinda makes like a clanking noise whenever I go over anything. I'm pretty sure I installed them right. The fronts are fine, it's just the rears.

You just answered your own question ;) Check to make sure everything is tight and if you did anything with your RSB make sure you installed it back correctly! :hs:

I don't have a RSB. I beieve that everything is good and tight. But I'll double check.

Oh man I feel like an idiot. I left the metal plate just above the bumpstop on and it is smacking against that bolt that holds the spring plate on. So I guess I have to take the rears back out again to remove that plate.

There ya go! and I'm sure you were stressing out as if you needed to over-haul the rear or something! Now just fix that bad boy and go through some turns! :ben:

I removed the plate but I'm still getting the noises. I don't know what is going on. I'm gonna take some pics to show you guys. The struts are sticking up pretty high and there is alot of travel. I almost have a bouncy ride in the back. Is this normal? I was gonna get some vinyl spiral hose and put it on the springs. They might be rubbing. I went and got some nylon and rubber bushings and shortened the travel distance. I'm not bouncing anymore. Just whenever I hit a normal sized bump, it sounds horrible.
Also, the upper part of the strut is rubbing up against the mounting plate. Towards the inside of the car. I haven't got an alignment yet, but will that fix that. It seems like it grinding into it a little. |
