Z32 brake proportioning valve
Hey guys,
Ive had my Z32 brake kit for a couple years now and didnt until recently really consider possible difference in braking bias
(noob move i know). Anyway are you guys with this kit using the stock proportioning valve or have people switched over to the Z32 one. Only reason I bring this up is while talking to a friend about it I mentioned that I really wasnt that impressed with the kit's braking ability over stock for everyday driving applications. He mentioned getting the Z32 proportioning valve. I know that point is more to increase braking in excessive use (autocross/track) as bigger brakes shouldnt fade as fast. But should the initial bite be similar in day to day driving? I know that has part to do with the pads. I had the axxis ultimates for awhile and I noticed a really had to heat them up for them to start biting well so I just switched to less performance oriented pads bc I wanted that initial bite to be there. What are people's thoughts on this? Thanks guys.

most of the bite you're talking about is related to the pads. anything you're going to do to increase bite for street driving is going to increase rotor wear as well.
main thing for bias is that you need to have the same pads front and rear, or more aggressive pads in the rear for this application. With the increased pistons size of the front calipers, your bias will be shifted to the front. but it will also make the pedal a bit longer and give you more elverage when you put your foot into it (more braking power due to the greater hydraulic advantage).
So are you wanting more bite during everyday driving, or more bite under hard driving?

I was hoping for more bite in everyday driving. The pads were the cheapos from autozone (just needed something quick at the time).
When i drive my roommates 95 with the stock brakes it stops way harder on initial bite under normal driving
Could this all be the pads?

Yeah, that's very likely the pads. Crap pads stop like crap. you get what you pay for.
For street use, pick up some Axxis MM or Hawk HPS if you drive hard. If you're more of an everyday driver kinda guy, look at some Raybestos, Bendix IQ or CQ pads. You should be able to get them from Autozone or Oriellys or Advance or whatever for about $50-60 a set. The Axxis MM or Hawk will probably run you $60 or so as well, but will handle more heat. They'll wear out faster and have more brake dust too, but they will perform better.
Any of those will perform better than the $19 crap pads.
