Aluminum steering column bushing?

A member by the name of vsamoylov was selling some of these aluminum steering column bushings for a while, then it looks like he got banned. For what, I can't quite remember.

I was browsing NYCMaximas and saw he has a few of these things left for sale and was curious if anyone here ever installed one. I seem to remember a discussion here about how they would affect crash safety in the event of a front-end collision, but I don't think anything definitive was ever established.

I'm trying to do every last thing to tighten up the steering on my car and if these things work, I'm going to buy one. I just want some input from the minds here. Do similar mods exist for other cars?

Thanks!

I have one but haven't installed it yet. I believe the s13 guys do this too: http://www.s-chassis.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37921. And I believe the Q45 doesn't even have a bushing like the Maxima or s13 does, but im not entirely sure. Maybe someone will chime in.

It's a common mod for the old Z crowd as well. provides more steering feel (i.e. you can feel the little vibrations from gravel on the road through the steering wheel), but they don't add any performance or road holding capability.
