I think he meant only the CPS, which is some sort of sensor the ECU has to read.

How can you "weld" a sensor to the flywheel? The flywheel is constantly spinning.. The CPS I believe goes in right between the engine and tranny, pointing towards the teeth on the flywheel.

welding only needed for 6spd flywheel with 4th gen CPS ring

So if you reuse a 4th gen flywheel, no welding involved right?

BTW: will a 4th gen flywheel even bolt up to the 3.5?

That seems too good to be true. A 3.5 block with a 2000-2001 VI in a 4th gen would rock.

BTW, would a 2001 RWD or WD pathfinder 3.5 block work as well as an Altima or Maxima 2002 + block?

Technically you can always convert a RWD setup to FWD, but it's probably way, way out of anyone's league to be doing. Just go with FWD stuff. Also, could someone explain to me why the DE-K variable intake manifold is better than the 3.5's?

Thanks. Now everyone please MAKE A NOTE OF THAT.

Also, Tilley, I would love to come down and see the car maybe in a month or two. I live in Lewistown, which is in Mifflin County...about an hour and a half away from you.

a new style custom would be nice maybe we will have one soon. Maybe SR20DEN should get with me on doing something for 4th gens. I can weld aluminum but im sure he has some good tech ideas?

Tilley, did you dyno it yet?

Also, are you considering changing injectors and TB? Are you still on the 3.0L TB? Must be pretty restrictive...

And he still ran 13.87... Wonder what it would be with 70 mm TB, changed injectors, ecu, mevi and lightweight 15" wheels

Well being that he posted in another thread wondering if anyone had 3.5 heads, I'm assuming he's not planning a MEVI, but rather the superior 3.5 VIM. The injectors wouldn't make any performance difference probably, but may be necessary down the road (or not, who knows). Yeah...I can't even imagine what he could accomplish on 15" wheels with slicks...

Keeping the 3.0L wiring like SR20DEN suggested?

Tilley, I don't think you mentioned this, at least not in this thread, and I'm assuming the answer is no, but did you have to modify the engine mounts? I was thinking of buying some poly ones before doing the swap but I'm not sure 4th gen motor mounts would work.

I wouldn't think so, logically, otherwise it'd be a very common mod for 4th gens.

It could be possible with 3.5 heads.......but I'm not going to spread rumors, let's let SR20DEN answer this on.

Well last time he said he'd rather swap the whole VQ35 with heads/manifold but use original VQ30 wiring.

Right now I want to buy Cattman headers to go along with the swap but I'm not sure they would fit with 3.5 heads.

It is more logical to just swap the whole engine than tear apart two engines to use parts from each. I know that's what I would do...infinitely more beneficial.

You're probably right but I really am not sure how the VQ30DE wiring will work will the entire VQ35DE engine. Apparently the only difference would be no variable timing but it's still unclear how the wiring would fit. Cool if it does, cause simply reclacing the VQ30DE with a complete VQ35DE keeping 5-speed trans, ECU and wiring with minimal hassle would be ideal. Maybe this will be as common as Honda swaps someday

You guys are the best keep up the R&D, it take someone with the ***** to be radical to start a revolution. Just think of it guys if no one put in the effort, we wouldn't even think of a boosted max. I say try all the possibilities and find one that best suits your application. This is something I definately would be interseted in.

Well the variable timing is possible, like stated previously, with the MoTeC. And of course you can retain the VIM with an RPM switch. However, you can't just swap over the 5-spd and call it day. Read earlier in the post (I think it's there) about some small problems getting it to match up. SR20DEN has told me the auto tranny swaps right over though.

any vq trans will work on a 3.5 or 3.0 the only one that will require mods is the 6spd cause the CPS ring is different if used in a 95-01

I think Tilley just used his old 5-speed manual transmission from his '97 onto the 3.5. If that's the case, it shouldn't be too complicated. Rip whole 3.0 out. Dump whole 3.5 in. It's the wiring that will probably cause my head to rupture violently.

Yeah, I mixed a few things up. I thought it was the 5-spd having problems matching up to the 3.5...but I guess it's the other way around (6-spd to 3.0). Either way...wiring shouldn't really be a problem, JClaw. I'm a huge supporter of SR20DEN's idea to use all the VQ30 wiring. Honestly, I don't think it would be that complicated, considering all the similarities between the two engines. The only thing is you'd need an RPM switch for the VI, and the MoTeC if you wanted to keep the variable cam timing.

I see a few problems with cam pos sensor and flywheel cps they (3.0 harness will need to be 5 spd with 3.0 fly. or auto with 3.0 torque plate). Cam pos sensor has its pickup on the wrong side of the head and I think the markings on the cam will send the wrong signal. (just my opinion after i have tore both apart)
