3.5 in a 4th gen
#286
Earlier you guys were talking about having 3.5 IM on 3.0 heads or I could be wrong, has anyone figured out how to do this without using the TB of the 3.5 or vise versa I've been messing with it and I can't seem to get by the IAC if using the 3.0 TB. But I heard you guys say something about using an alternate sensor. >>>>>?????????

>>...I've only heard of 1 person that has done this swap and still don't know who it was...or has he given up as i've heard too. i have the ecu and wires but no tranny and axle...my 5 speed tranny won't mate to this 3.5, but i'm not sure of the axle. do u kno if the axle i have now will work with this 3.5?<<
Make of this whatever you want. Tilley saying the tranny mates, and this one contradicting...

Oh Sh#T I figured it out, you have to pull the pin out from the 3.0 with cam gear and put it on the 3.5 cam, same with exhaust side but the bolt holds the cam gear together. correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh and what kind of gains am I looking at with this setup?
Compression?
HP?
TQ?
My setup similar to Tillys
3.5 block
3.0 Heads
3.5 Cams
CAI
Full Race Exhaust 2.5" W/ YPipe

I was about to point that out for a forced induction setup but I guess it was on everybody's mind. The upper end will also flow better when you're pushing real hardcore hp. Then again, might as well swap the entire 3.5. Someone I know has a turbo 350z pushing 600hp and the only weak link is the tranny... no more third gear.
I know, I know. But it seems everytime I think I've looked at every possible issue, the halfway-insane mechanical freak's worst enemy shows up; doubt. Now the only thing between me and this swap is about 2500$ (taking into account I've already go 1500), since I'm changing the entire exhaust system at the same time.

writeup? or parts list?
so tilly will you be doing a writeup of this project? not saying u shud, but it would be cool, losa work, but still cool, cmonnnn. or if not could we get a detailed parts list so us DIY can mess around without wasting too much money? btw excellent work and props for pulling it off.

Tilley - A VQ30+VQ35 heads sounds great, however they bumped the VQ35 compression from 10:1 to 10.3:1 to help low tumble flow and inefficient combustion from the high angle port late generation VQ35 heads. This will be offset some by the smaller diameter VQ30 cylinders speeding up combustion speed, however dropping CR even lower due to the larger VQ35 head combustion area could cause issues.
Please try though.

i I'm new here, but I have one simple question: since the differences between the VQ30 and VQ35 are bore and stroke, everything else is the same in the engine bottom, would be easier to take everything out of the 3.5L bottom (pistons, pulleys, crankshaft), drill the block of 3.0L engine, and then put those 3.5L things into the drilled VQ30 block?????
I have the european maxima '99 wich looks like I30 with autotranny, and LPG sytem (drives on gasoline and LPG fuel). I want to get some extra hp from it so Ithought it would be the easiest way to do so....

Ok so I'm going to buy VQ35 and use the bottom of it along with my VQ30 hads. Can you(or someone else) can list all the things needed to do it?
Will it work fine with my auto tranny??? Will the auto tranny stand the greater hp and torque? Please help me eith that. No one has ever done such a swap in Poland before, so I will be the first.
Wouldn't be easier to put the whole vq35 and use all the staff left from vq30 like alternator, ac comp, power steering pump and of course ecu.

I couldn't give you a full parts list. But I know you'll want the VQ30 timing equipment also.
Yes, the auto tranny should hold up fine. I believe it's the same tranny as the one run on the VQ35 actually. I'm pretty sure they're the same tranny, just bolted to different engines.
