can I use 3.5 from 350Z
I might be getting a killer deal on a 3.5 from a 350Z. Can I use it as a swap. I know I would need the 02-03 IM and oil pan correct. What else would I need.

You use 3.0 oil pan. Not sure if it would work, maybe the attachments for the mounts aren't there...

How much do they want for the 350z engine?
|
not sure if the block already has the holes for fwd motor mount locations
|
What's a "killer deal"? If it's low enough, you can sell off the parts for a pretty penny.
Here's a FWD VQ35 you could have got for ~$600: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting |
I am getting it from a co worker deal hasn't been final yet. It's from his wrecked 350Z.
That link on ebay. That's my bid as winner just reserve wasn't met. |

The motor mount holes on the 350Z, and other RWD 3.5's are different.
|
you could if u converted ur maxima into a RWD car
|
it was relisted, reserve lowered, and someone got it for $475!!.. I am keeping an eye on ebay to see if any more go for sale that cheap.. looks like the perfect engine to do internals/cams/stroker kit to. :)
|
i would like to see pcis if anybody has any of the mount configuration on vq35 from 350z.
|
The engine of a 350z wont really work in a Maxima, even tho they have the same engine code VQ35DE, the block itself is engineered differently. The 350z/G35 engine is engineered for RWD and won't fit correctly. You are better off looking for a VQ35DE that was in a 3.5 Altima or the 5.5gen Max.

it would be interesting to see if nissan actually made to different casting molds for rwd vq35de blocks.
IMO, i don't think they would. The mounting holes should still be in the same place when you turn a transversely mounted engine into rwd configuation. The only thing that should be different is how those motor mounts will bolt up. I believe this is how allen from the org is planning to put the vq30de and 350z tranny into a s14, everything works as is... its all about placement |
The RWD VQ35's actually do have the mount holes in the center of the block, not the rear of the block like the FWD VQ's. To use the VQ30 in a RWD chassis I'm having to make mounts that extend rearward to align w/the block holes. You can check out he progress here if you like:

RWD VQ35s have different mounting locations than FWD VQ35s. The blocks are not identical. The blocks do not have provisions for both RWD and FWD mounting. I can take some pictures if you don't believe me. |
oh... in that case, how do some 350z's put in the vq30's which are only in fwd applications here?

That was my thought also. Tilley had a jdm VQ30DET from Japan. But could not use the entire engine. He had to transplant the internals to a fwd VQ30 block in order to use it in his fwd maxima.

well yes, i am aware of the vq30det. However Z owners like jim goughary with racing Z's are using maxima vq30 engines and not jdm det rwd versions
|
Larrio, if you are willing to fabricate custom mounts then you can pretty much use anything in anything. But I think everyone was talking about bolt on applications. I'm going to say custom mounts for a fwd is a bit harder than rwd. Or are they just bolting the rwd mounts right up to the stock mounting places for the VQ?

he told me custom mounts in a email, but didn't mention where he has relocating brackets like allen's vq into s14 or just stock mounting fwd places

Did you look into the FWD VQ35 flywheel or Z32 flywheel working with a 350Z clutch?

get everything from him: engine, tranny, driveshaft, rear diff, front axles and do the rwd conversion, if i had the money and a good hookup like that, it's what i'd do, a rwd max would be sick, but alas i am a poor college student
