but i need to know if thats all i will need then. the adapter plates, and the manifold? i dont want to go there, and have to go back later. and vsamoylov, how much are these adapter plates? how many will i need?

You'll need two; one for TB and one for IACV. All you need is the upper IM. You will need to flip the DE lower IM and redrill the DEK upper IM to fit. Go to a parts store and buy several feet of vaccum hose though. Also buy caps if you decide to disable/remove the EGR.

is there a benefit of using the 5th gen TB over the 4th gen? I thought i remembered saying it'd be tough to use the 5th gen TB with our 4th gen IACV or something. Does disabling the EGR = CEL?

Using the 5th gen TB does cause clearance issues with EGR. And disabling the EGR does not result in a CEL as long as you leave the sensors plugged in and dangling in the engine bay.

You'll get an 0302 EGR High/low flow code if the EGR is disabled.

My EGR is disabled and I don't have a CEL. I have all the sensors still plugged in too.

I have mine disabled with all the sensors plugged in and get the code. I don't see how you're not getting one. That's the whole point of the EGR temp sensor, to determine if there is EGR flow or not in the conditions that call for it. Check your codes or check to see if the CEL itself is blown.

why would you disable the EGR? Is there a benefit of that? Or does it just make the install easier? I dont really care about a CEL, as long as I know what its for and its not robbing my car of power.

I've checked for codes; no codes. I disabled the EGR because I didn't have a 5th gen guide tube on hand. You won't loose any power but you will run a little richer.

Yes, I'm positive it is disabled. The guide tube is not bolt to the IM. The coolant has been bypassed. The vaccum sources were capped.

about how long do you think it would take to complete this project? Is it a weekend sorta deal? I'm really interested in doing, and want to inform myself before i go into something that i really know nothing about. and you said using the 5th gen TB would cause clearance issues with the EGR, but if i disabled the EGR anyways, couldnt i just remove the EGR itself and not have that problem?

Removal of IM: 1.5 hours (first time)
Installation of VI: .5 hour
Figuring out vaccum hoses: 3-4 hours

Expect to make a few trips to the auto parts store for various stuff too.

would the 5th gen have better gains? Did you do the VI and ECU at the same time? or did you do them seperately? I cant wait to feel the difference between my IM now and the 00 VI. Im hoping its going to definitely be noticeable.

No gains from 5th TB is what I meant. As for the order, I had the ECU before I got the VI. Each was like putting an aftermarket y-pipe on all over again.

really? wow...i cant wait. i love how i can feel the y pipe at 3500 rpms. I found one for 125 bucks...just a matter of driving down there. Probably pick it up at the next chicago meet.

So what switchover are you guys using for the 2k VI swaps? Ive got my 2K VI set at 4600 RPM right now via SMT-6 and it feels good, but im open to suggestions.

I would like to know this too as well as if you are using your stock ecu or upgraded ecu. Also mines is opening at about 4800 rpms.

Mine opens at 4600 and I'm using a Summit RPM switch. I've also got an upgraded ECU (no rev limit increase though) for whoever asked.

Do you guys know if the 4th gen and the 5th gen TPS sensor are identical?

my 5th gen TPS is cracked in the casing, and it feels weird when turning it... Guess i'll have to use my 4th gen one..

this is good stuff. i picked up my 00 upper IM yesterday, and ordered my rpm switch today. Then have to order the adapter plates tomorrow. Are the gains the same using just the upper as opposed to using the lower with the fuel rail, injectors, etc...? What's the significance of using the lower from the 00?

Yeah, the only reason to use the 4th gen lower IM is if you have 370 cc/min or larger sidefeeds and want to keep them.
