My mpg actually improved going from 3.0 to 3.5, but that is probably due to new O2 sensors, headers and new KS. Normally I get 320-330 miles on a tank but I drive it like it's rented. Driving like a granny I could easily get 400+.

From my 95-03, it went DOWN quite bad .. 26 down to 22. But it's apples to oranges since it's in a 4th gen body.

With so much nuts under the hood it's hard, but doable.

When there's an I/E 98 civic reving at you it's hard to resist putting 10 cars on him.

lol, so lets say for example if the two cars (4th gen and 4th gen w/ 3.5L) are driven in the same manner. my brother has a '03 and i have a '95 and i've driven both and i get about 4 mpg more than he does.

Weight has an effect. They say when you removed 100 lbs from a 3000 lbs car you increase mpg by 7 to 8%.

different trannies are going to put out different numbers. altima is 5 spd, maxima is 6 spd manual. 350Z is probably tuned more for the 287 hp number it gets. Pathfinder is rated at 265. so its not like they are "lying" so to say.

well if they all share the same engine code, is it possible that the only difference is the tranny? and if so, why cant we just get the motor from a 350z and slap on a tranny from a maxima?

B/c the trans mounting is different. The Z is RWD whereas a VQ35 coming from a Maxima/Altima has the trans mounting for FWD.

The truth about the HP numbers is that there are really only two different power outputs:

Pathfinder/Murano/Quest/Maxima/Altima= 240 HP, 260 lbs tq

350z/G35= 280 HP, 280 lbs tq

They got more torque than they want to admit, because Nissan thinks the public doesn't care about torque and only buys into high HP like Hondas.

The new Z's(anniversary, ect..) Have a totally different IM so I am pretty sure they make more power.

It just kind of sucks to get on the dyno and expect good numbers. I was also disappointed but if has nothing to do with my mods. My serpentine belt started slipping at 5200 and also started smoking so my power dropped immediately afterward. I'm not sure if the dyno is really showing that the engine is not making power because of the serpentine belt slipping but I'll need to fix that issue and do another dyno here in MA.

ok reading about all this engine swap mumbo jumbo, i thought of something. 350z blocks dont mount in our cars due to the transversal mount issues; however, if the new 350's are making 300hp, is it possible to take everything off of the rwd mount block and apply that to the fwd block? seems like this wouldnt be a problem. just my thoughts

SR20DEN is making 263fwhp (about 310 HP crank) on a FWD VQ35 and his engine is stock. You don't need the z to make 300+ hp, but you need to tune it well.

I was curious if someone could email me some info on this swap. I have a 98 auto and my 3.0 (and cv's) were thoroughly destroyed by nitrous.

Thanks to anyone willing to help.

Here's where the motor end up: Under my hood...
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=487198

Basically the swap is perfect, discounting the troubleshooting problems. No Cel's, no adaptability issues, every accessory from my 4th gen setup fits directly onto this built motor. Good luck.

The z also has a different ECU (iirc the same as the 6th gen max though), exhaust, IM, and the revup motor has different cams. It's not a matter of gearing and correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think that the drivetrain loss on the Z's 6-speed would be greater than ours since it's RWD, right?

as many people (including SR20 himself) have pointed out, the IM is just a small piece of the puzzle that allowed him to make the power he does. He's done so many more small things that most people have not accomplished yet. The IM is a piece of cake to modify, so if anyone really wanted to do it, they wouldn't need a write-up...just my .02

I thought we came to the conclusion that it is only better when exhaust VTCs are used. Otherwise else just stick to the stock FWD Maxima manifold.

That is just my reguritation memory.
