wut year 3.5's can i use
 
im not to mechanical and i was jus looking on ebay for engines to swap into my car but i dont know wut year i can swap in so if anyone can jus simply type the year maxima i can use in my 4th gen that would be dandy like all of them... or up to 2003 or wutever

If you're not very mechanically inclined, donate an search.

Most swaps on here have come from 02+ Altimas, and IIRC an A33B.

No one has yet done an A34 engine just yet, but I'm quite sure it can be done.

You cannot use any RWD platform VQ35 due to chassis mounting bolt locations, but if you donated and searched you would know that.

Look in the sticky because it lists every car you can choose an engine from. BTW it is the 02-03 Maxima you want to take from. I am not sure when the VQ35 was introduced to the other models.

Why not the VQ35 from the 04-06 Maxima? I thought they were unchanged from 02 through 06, but I don't know for sure.

They have different heads(VQ40)... But that's the only difference(part #'s), and shouldn't have any effect when installing in an A32.

What changes were made to the heads?

I have heard of the gen I VQ35, which went into the 2000-01 Pathfinders and which had intake ports identical to the VQ30, and the gen II VQ35 which went into the 2002-03 Maxima (and Alti's too, I guess) which had rounder intake ports and a higher port angle. I had not heard of a gen III VQ35.

Yeah, I guess I was familiar with the gen III VQ35 in the Z. They have the variable exhaust cam as well as intake. Are these used in the 04-06 Maximas?

I would think so, given that the 04+ are hauling around 55 lbs per corner 18's, a 3500 lbs curb weight and still manage to pull mid 14s with the automatic. I've also heard rumors that the Altima SE-R is capable of 13's in stock form. I saw a stock one go 14.6@98 mph with a REALLY crappy 2.45 60'. Anyone pull a 2.0 in that thing on stock tires, and they're doing 13.9's. With 18's.

Seen a stock one run 14.53 @96 autotragic, guys wife driving ran 14.5s all night. Don't know the 60' times

I have a 2004 maxima engine in my 97 right now that I'm having troubles with. But that's not because it's a 2004. It seems to be the exact same engine as a 02-03 with the difference being an external EGR valve. The IM is the same POS.

The EGI harness is different in that the ECU is totally different. The O2 sensors are wideband sensors.

But the 5AT's have almost identical gearing to the A32 5MT's. (1st 3 gears)

I do not believe the 04+ FWD VQ35 has the variable exhaust cam timing that's found in the Z33 ... And in your statement JClaw, you essentially stated the A34 was sharing the same engine as the rev up Z33 version, which I wouldn't say it was.

The 04+ had some block changes, I believe that it was tilley said. He said it was smoother on the outside.

That 'dual stage' is very very cheap/getho/afterthought from Nissan. The only reason they put it in was to handle the 3250+ curb weight and heavy @ss 17's in the low RPM range.

IM is no different from the 02-03 3.5. If you want more power after 6k, get a ECU upgrade so that the A/F ratio doesn't run richy rich and so that the E-throttle opens up all the way.

There's no proof here either.

Jime has stated that the throttle doesn't close toward the right hand of the tach, and my A/F is 13.5 after 6k ... Stock ECU.

I'm working on one. I'm lapping in the valves this week, then all I have left to do is check valve lash and drill the intake cams and assemble the engine. But I probably won't have the engine in until I get through some work related deadlines in early March.

The engine has a Maxima VQ35 block and crank, Pathfinder VQ35 heads, Pathfinder pistons (flat top 10:1 CR), 4th gen LIM and fuel rail, 300ZXTT injectors, and the 00VI with a PF throttle body. ARP rod bolts and main bearing and cylinder head studs, and JWT valve springs. And, of course, supercharged.

I will dyno before putting on the supercharger, but I'm not expecting any records for two reasons. One, the A32 ignition timing may not be advanced enough (I'll dyno with my oem ecu, but from what I understand, A33bs and A34s have more advanced timing than A32s), and two, I am going to set cam timing so as to minimize valve overlap. This will prevent boost loss after I put the supercharger on and improve torque, but for NA operation high rpm breathing will suffer.

I don't think he used the pathfinder heads when he put the 00vi on the 3.5. Not having the ports match up nicely would prolly negate any potential gains.
