How are you concluding that the VSS's are the same? The part # is different, at the very least. The same output doesn't necessarily mean there's the same number of teeth or that the length is the same. My 6-spd came with a VSS installed (altima tranny) so maybe I can compare it to a 5-spd VSS I may have kicking around.

Oh boy, apparantly I've made a bit of a mistake, and back when I was doing what I was doing apparantly I was reading the diagram for a VDC equipped car and I must have been in that whole back-up MTR mode, as well as completely *** backwards at the time of how I thought the VSS circuit functioned and I thought that the entire vss was bypassing the cluster.

Maybe there could be a beginner's guide to what needs to be purchased/acquired and an overview of some of the necessary connections... but the nitty-gritty of the wiring portion should be discussed with someone who knows what to do if one has NO idea where to begin.
