Kevin's VQ35DE NA Build Epilogue..
Everyone asked why I had no threads up on the forums for the most part, I decided to throw up all the R&D and new things that were brought to the VQ35. Here's a mod list and tons of pictures of the stuff we're working on. Enjoy

good stuff :D |

Man mad props, this is serious stuff. I have no regret having built my motor for FI, but these numbers are amazing NA. Cant wait to see more of this project, I subscribed.
Good job man. What kind of exhaust system does it have right now? Wondering if you guys have a free flowing exhaust or a cutout (since they have proven to always add power) |
 OMG! What AFR were you tuning to?
I want those cams...:drool1: |

Nope no cut out. 2.5in exhaust with no cat.
You haven't considered using a cutout? I guarantee you'll gain even more power/torque, FACT! |
and a custom header setup like I had will net even more..

Somebody here ran the cutout and it didn't do anything to their dyno or track times so it didn't really spark any interest to get it. Some say it works some don't so I'm not gona both I'm happy where I'm at with true HP. With tuning we'll pull outa few more HP. Tuner says the exhaust setup is fine for a small 3.5L motor.
noneless sweet build, is this going to be a track only car? |
Great job Kevin! You will definitely gain power from a cutout.
Here's my dyno thread. I have a good comparison of dyno runs with and without the cutout being open. This is compared to stock Bpipe and muffler which is very restrictive. I gained 20hp every time the cutout was open. And in the 1/4 mile, I consistently shave .15 to .2 just by having it open. Also, we made over 20 passes with the cutout closed and 20 with it open. Each time, it showed roughly a 20hp gain without a loss of power anywhere in the powerband. http://forums.maxima.org/dyno-discus...244ft-lbs.html I can't wait to check out your car. I'm in Palm Beach county quite often with my Maxima. I'll be sure to give you a call next time I'm in town. |
I agree with everyone here on the cutout. Last year we ran a open exhaust with two EVO 8 resonators. Switching to the open exhaust netted us at least 11hp with the QR.
For the VQ, we are considering keeping the banks separate. Two pipes out the side. Regarding the ITBs, do the stacks fit into a plenum.. eventually? Or I assume you'll run filters.. |

patient guys , its still in a working stages and he hasnt even break a sweat yet.
But the car pulls really hard in 3rd , theres always more room to improve. we'll get some more time into between TPS and Emerald Performance Should be fun ! |
I'm not rushing Kevin, I was just curious if they are filtered.

That pull looked pretty damn good. :)

Nice job Kevin. I know the kind of effort and time that goes into a build like this. Which model Dynojet did you dyno on? Do you have a dyno chart and run files by chance? What air/fuel ratio did you aim for across the board? Seeing this gets me excited to finish my build and get her back in the car. Looks like alot of fun.
|
Sick stuff. Those itb's will love some more aggressive cams.

We're trying to find the run files from the 299 the only chart I have is in the video in the old thread to see the difference in the power where it drops off after 6500 peaking at 299. There still needs to be a good amount of tuning to smoothen her out, we just did a quick tune for power to slap them on and do the before and after. A lota work to fine tune it still. I'll try and get ahold of the run files, they just don't have a printer maybe I'll bring a usb memory card and see if I can save em to it.
And thanks, its been a long journey to get to where we're at especially with the standalone setup. "Which model Dynojet did you dyno on? What air/fuel ratio did you aim for across the board?" |

Now that you have tossed down 3G's on ITB's.. Get some bigger cams, and build a 2.5" equal length y-pipe, with 3" merge. JWT's C8 or even C9's would make a lot more power. C8's would probably be the best compromise between low end loss and midrange/top end gains.
I'd be lieing if I said that I wasn't a little jelous.. ;) Nice build, and impressive numbers for C2's. Travis |

What fuel are you using, 93?
|
A 3" exhaust with a magnaflow muffler will make more power. I guarantee that 100%.
N/A is the WAY! lol I want to build up an N/A VQ bad! |
Kev,
Are you gonna put this on the road course? Shot me a PM or txt if you are looking for custom built coilovers and I'll hook you up. BC Racing is the main sponsor for our SER. |

your going to make some more , just gotta get back for some tunning , just dont overdue it since everytime you dyno you add so much stress to the motor.
get the hood done and some more seat time like we talked about for your goals. |

That looks cool.. Gotta love waterjet.
