Russ's 00vi Swap

Well I have been gathering parts and doing little prep work here and there and planning over the past 2 months and decided to do a thread to have some help with a few questions i will have along the way as well as provide pictures to members who in the future wish to do the swap.

Acording to Tatankos website im doing 00vi #5

5th Gen UIM
5th Gen TB/IACV
EGR Delete
4th Gen Fuel Rail/Injectors
4th Gen LIM
Summit RPM Swtich

I will Post pictures after work tonight/tomorrow
But so far for prep work I have Cleaned the TB and LIM sanded both down
(using a 99 LIM) removed the swirl valves and JB welded the holes with a bolt on them.

My first initial question, after searching but finding no answer.. My LIM im using is the 99 LIM with swirl valves (I am a 95 Fed Spec) is the bolt pattern for the uim different than that of the 95-98 w/o swirls? I havent bought any of the bolts yet (the M6x130mm and the 2 M6x 100mm because no one carries them here.

On inspection and lining up the lower and the upper...the two bolt holes in the rear look to just about line up... can anyone help me on this?

Yes the manifold was facing the correct way

MOHFpro90 Apr 28, 2010 07:19 PM

The bolt holes should be M6x1.00mm thread pitch.

well i know what they are... i was just curious because i found it odd that the 99 cali spec lower actually had the rear two bolts line up identically...

also how many people run the 5th gen TB with a coolant bypass?

mista0406 Apr 28, 2010 09:31 PM

cant wait to see install pics

Alright good deal... I have never tapped anything before so tonight Im goin to a buddys place who does autocross racing and builds acura and honda motors for autox and drag so he can tap my lim for me and give me a hand in wiring up my RPM switch since I have never done any wiring at all before...

Alright thought I read somewhere that bypassing coolant would hypothetically keep the car at cold idle all the time so I wont worry about it and disregaurd that. I forget what thread I read that in.

MOHFpro90 Apr 29, 2010 04:38 PM

I do as well. Are you getting the holes welded then tapped?

Redline Maxima Apr 29, 2010 06:29 PM

i also run 5th gen TB with coolant bypass. good luck on the swap man. 00VI FTMFW!!! the difference from the USIM is just ridiculous. everyone is right when they say you won't wanna let your foot up off the gas pedal.

haha thanks guys.

::update::

Today after class I brought the 00vi to my buddy Logans place (he builds engines and does custom work for people) and had him fix this up for me

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._8358756_n.jpg

He welded shut a spare EGR tube a had so I can completely have that sucker blocked off.

We also got this setup
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...8_615073_n.jpg

Summit RPM switch..soldered everything in and ran the wires through to the engine bay...

Also I was having an issue setting up on drilling the LIM because it was a cali spec 99 and nothing was like any of the other diagrams i viewed so Logan is gonna make the SOB work and set it up so I will be able to bolt it down haha. I dropped off the upper and lower tonight and he is gonna port, finish the polishing work and tap the manifold for me... I just need to pick it up on monday and finish installing the brass fittings.

I also was told by him i need to get a Helicoil set to fit the LIM so he doesnt have to widen the UIM bolt holes...anyone know what kind of helicoil Ill need? he told me id need a 7x1..no clue what that means

Im not sure.. The guy who is doing the drilling and tapping is a licensed welder...so we'll see

hornepirate May 1, 2010 07:49 PM

I gave up on trying to drill the 99 Cali Lower manifold and im just gonna wait to take off my 95 manifold.. I cut threaded rods to permatex into the lower manifold and picked up an M6 Tap today and will just drill my 95 lower because i am led to believe that the 99 Cali spec are a different bolt pattern than the lowers (it was off a 99 cali spec SE-L)

How do all you a33 IACV guys get around clearance issues with the vacuum gallery?

As far as the bolt holes, none lined up on my 01 UIM/a32 LIM (95). I had to drill the sides of the UIM (both in slightly different areas, to catch as much metal on the LIM as possible), I filled the stock mid-rear holes, and then used a threaded rod for the mid- rear bolts (the threaded rod is stuck through holes drilled in the LIM, and held in at the underside with melted lead) that comes up through the UIM with a nut at the top, and the mid fronts are drilled and tapped, using the stock bolts.

I removed that vacuum gallery (A) and just rerouted the hoses from Vacuum gallery B to the manifold and whatnot.

This was really helpful

hornepirate May 3, 2010 06:15 AM

The 99 I had was a PITA so im using the 95 on my car...I cut 2 Threaded rods for the rear bolts and will figure the rest out when I actually do the install and Ill post up some pictures so it will be a bit more helpful to everyone

Redline Maxima May 3, 2010 07:01 AM

i think i just pushed the vaccuum gallery down to gain clearance for the a33 IACV. it is a tight fit

just take make sure...the areas in red are the Coolant lines for the 5th gen TB/IACV right?

bamboomerang May 3, 2010 02:06 PM

Yes, but did you smell them?

hornepirate May 3, 2010 08:56 PM

they came in an oily box...so i couldnt tell

hornepirate May 3, 2010 09:28 PM

Just got the gaskets in from nissan tonight. The valve cover gaskets all look right but my upper intake manifold gasket doesnt look right and im gonna be pissed if it is what i think it is.

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...f5d0e2af0e.jpg

looks like a 2002+ manifold gasket...can anyone confirm?

96nismoSE May 4, 2010 04:44 AM

thats exactly what it is.

hornepirate May 4, 2010 05:41 AM

Damn...I hate those ****ing idiots!

I Swear sometime the guys at advanced auto know more than the nissan guys

thats pushing it though...time to drive 45 minutes up to venice and raise hell

Got my money back and picked up the right gaskets and an M6 Tap.

Anyone know if a 3/16 Drill bit will work with an M6 Tap? I know its like a tenth off

I got my tap from Fastenal and it was just a tap not a kit he pulled out a chart and said i needed an Metric 5 bit but the closest would be a standard 3/16 but would be a little too small...

I hope that works...its so hard in west florida to track down anything metric

just take it easy with the tap. screw it in a couple times then back it out so it doesnt snap off...ask me how i know:rolleyes:

hornepirate May 4, 2010 06:58 PM

haha alrighty...any other tips?

aznprid972 May 4, 2010 07:14 PM

Easiest way is label everything on the new and old parts. Once you do that, it's pretty much matching everything up. It sure beats thinking to yourself "what did this vacuum hose go to again...?"

hornepirate May 5, 2010 10:52 AM

haha yeah i got that down...took electrical tape and have all the vac lines, fuel lines, and coolant lines labeled...btw i found this hose that was not connected to anything and wanted to know where its home was

http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs578...._8370910_n.jpg

also which of the wire on the VAIS go to the RPM switch, and which one goes to the battery?

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._7564154_n.jpg

btw im doing the swap now over the course of 3 or 4 days...im hoping to have it up and running by staurday...i have the Rpm switch already installed...the EGR already blocked off...I had the tube welded by a guy...i need to pull the LIM and tap that tonight

bamboomerang May 5, 2010 04:44 PM

When I swapped - that 'nowhere' hose showed up. Mine traced back to the fuel pressure regulator. I connected it to a vacuum source, not too sure if I should have done that. I'm currently troubleshooting MAP-BARO code issues, so don't listen to me.

That's awesome.

I have my parts sitting in my basement for the 00vi, just have to get the five speed in first. Good luck.

hornepirate May 5, 2010 07:30 PM

I have the one marked for the fuel vac source with a sticky note. I just didnt find anywhere this was supposed to go to.

hornepirate May 6, 2010 07:55 AM

any help with the wiring for the vias?

Where does it trace back to? I'm not familiar with any 'breather' hose in that area, and the shape of the end of the tube looks a little flared like it was installed on something. Show a better pic of where it connects and I might be able to tell you.

Edit: Check to see if the underside of the upper gallery can accept that fitting, I'm pretty sure it connects the two gallerys, feeding one into the other. Otherwise, look for a hose that got loose towards the firewall that has a little white valve for your hose.

hornepirate May 6, 2010 04:44 PM

thanks man i appreciate it! ill trace it back later... ill upload some pics shorty...Today I blocked off the EGR, installed the 5th gen rear valve cover with new gaskets, installed new spark plug seals and did the front valve cover and drilled the upper intake manifold a little bit and used M6 Helicoils to hold in the to upper inner 00vi bolts (m6 x 130mm)

hornepirate May 6, 2010 05:16 PM

ALSO I NEED to know how to wire the summit switch to the vias

i searched for a while and couldnt find it...i remember seeing it somewere i just need to know which prong goes to the battery and which goes to the rpm switch...that would be very helpful. Thank you

96nismoSE May 6, 2010 05:55 PM

i think that vacuum hose used to go under the trottle body if i recall correctly.

And for the vias you use the black plug in... i belive if you look at it like how its on the can the power side is on the right and ground is on the left.
